When I first saw this movie I was so moved by it. To think that the king of rock & roll touched the life of this young lady and inspired her to look at her life and those who really cared and loved her and bring her out of her shell was incredible. I have always been a fan of Elvis and to this day I cherish his music, I can relate to the young lady in this movie because I too when I am down or sluggish all I have to do is listen to my Elvis music and that man will bring out the best in me. Elvis was a very special person and with his music he brought life and happiness to a beautiful young lady when she needed it the most. There will never be another Elvis he was a legend but he left us with the one thing we all need and that is his music. You won't regret watching this movie I can bet you that you will watch it more than once it was that moving. There was a lesson to be learned from this movie and that is to never give up on something or someone you care for if you're patient like she was you will eventually receive an answer.

I have Cerebral Palsy, so does my husband. The movie is so true to the life we live on a daily basis, of rejection and the need to find a 'star' to guide our lives by. The bond between the girl and her care attendant is significant, as the letter writing in hopes of meeting something greater that the mondane in our lives. Lastly, to have love. I recommend this movie to anyone who needs a 'charge' to jumpstart their lives, or for anyone who want to understand the on going issues of disability.

As a once very avid Elvis collector and music history specialist, I must say this movie is worth your attention! Based on the true story and book of a very wonderful woman who works with handicapped children in a special care facility. She meets a young lady (Diane Lane) who is a total fan of Elvis Presley and not only works with her therapy, but her love for Elvis. The unbelieveably true part is that Elvis personally begins to correspond with the young lady through a private mailing address. The complete story is golden, like a fairy tale. But this one is amazingly true, confirmed by the author, Joe Esposito, and once, at a press conference, Elvis, himself. 5 STARS- ALL THE WAY, (and remember the Kleenex box)!

Well, after paying only four dollars for this movie, and having watched it, I know what a bargain I got! With an amazing picturesque (Canada?) setting, a deeply moving story and stellar acting, you cannot go wrong wth this one. I love Diane Lane now, and she is terrific in this, portraying the main character of Karen, Cerebal Palsy sufferer. You don't need to be an Elvis fan to like this movie either, it was his caring and compassion towards her that moved me more than anything, and I just felt so angry to think that this wonderful, brave young lady had been so totally abandoned by her family (or so it is alluded to, at any rate). The movie has a wonderful, langorous feel about it, the way that movies used to be made - nice slow build-up, with good dialogue and sumptious, lingering photography (unlike the horrible fast camera work, special effects packed, oh so try hard movies of today). I love simple stories (wish Hollywood would go back to basics), and from start to finish this movie is absorbing and deeply satisfying, if sad. My four year old son just loved it too.
Highly recommended.

It details the life of a special little girl with cerebal palsy and how her love of Elvis made her remaining years joyful. Diane Lane is outstanding. John Amos and Michael Learned give much in supporting roles. While some may find this a weak production, any true Elvis fan will view it as quite an emotional ride and confirmation of the largeness and humbleness of The King of Rock n' Roll. As a "devout" Elvis fan he greatly touched my life. This movie, which I treasure, details just how special his life was and how much it meant to so many in so many different ways. Again, it's a must for ANY true Elvis fan.

As a woman who was born with Cerebral Palsy, I have love this movie since 1980, when it was first released!! It gives the caual viewer, just a small taste of what it's like to have this disability!! And even more important it delves into what all human beings must face!! The emotions of the human heart!!:) To the power that be~~Please release this one on DVD!!

I myself am physically disabled. This movie depicts just exactly what can happen when a person chooses not to give up on someone who is disabled even though everyone else has.....gives me chills just sitting here writing this review. Can't wait to own my own copy! :)

I saw this movie first when I was only 11 years old, and now, at 30, have finally found a place where I can own it for myself. I have remembered this movie for over 15 years, and still gives me the chills when I think of watching it again. A great movie for all!!!

I last saw this movie over twenty years ago back when cable was something new to be awed over. It is based on a true story about a special needs girl who is a big Elvis fan. She writes him a fan letter and he writes her back. She thrives when they become pen pals and there is hope she won't be stuck in an institution forever. It's also sad because of the ending and that it is the end of Elvis' career too. Sounds kind of dorky but I liked it and if you are a huge Elvis Presley fan it is interesting to see but I have to tell you he is not in the movie. Just his name, and speaking of him.
The quality of this video is very poor. It has major tracking issues. I can hardly see some scenes because the tracking is so messed up. I bought the tape used but it was the best used copy available. I'd love to see it on DVD but I doubt that will ever happen. It is a good movie but I would not risk buying a used copy because the tape is very poor quality. If you find a better copy let me know, somehow.
