1.0 out of 5 stars Touching Wild Horses is a Horrible Movie
Don't waste your money on this movie. The acting is weak as is the plot. Probably a B movie. Not a movie for kids under 12 in my opinion. The boy has nightmares about the death of his sister and father which starts out as no big deal but then the movie shows the sister and father dead in coffin size holes in the ground at night in a graveyard with skulls scattered...

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful story paired with breathtaking cimematography, September 10, 2004
This review is from: Touching Wild Horses (2002) (DVD)
After a terrible accident rips his family apart, 12-year-old Mark is shipped off to live with his aunt Fiona, whom he has never met. From their first chilly meeting, their relationship seems doomed. Fiona, a reclusive researcher living a hermit-like existance on a windswept island, is quite happy with her life and certainly doesn't welcome the intrusion of a child. She has spent happy, quiet years studying the wild horses who share her island and she quickly makes it clear that she will not allow Mark to endanger her position on the island. For his part, Mark tries his best to please his aunt, although his natural young-boy energies and curiosity tend to push her nerves to the edge.

Eventually, both learn to give a little and their relationship slowly begins to warm, with each learning to enjoy the other, despite their quirks and their lives settle into a comfortable rhythm.

When a sudden storm leaves the newest wild foal orphaned, however, Mark is unable to walk away and allow nature to "take it's course." As Fiona's residence on the island depends on her strict adherence to the law (which forbids any physical contact with the wild horses,) she is forced to choose between her idyllic life and the life of the helpless foal.

Starring Jane Seymour, the beauty of this film lies not just in the heart-warming story, but also in the stunning footage of the island and its lovely equine inabitants.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it, October 3, 2004
This review is from: Touching Wild Horses (DVD)
I am a huge Jane Seymour fan anyway and thought she did wonderfully in this film. I liked the underlying story of how Mark's family died. It kept me guessing. The horses and scenery were beautiful. Even though the story line moved slowly at times, I still liked it. It showed the natural beauty out there. The innocence of the horses was wonderful. I would especially recommend this movie to people who like nature.

I live in Boulder, Colorado and on March 19,2005. I rented the DVD movie of Touching Wild Horses staring Jane Seymour. I enjoyed the movie and all the horses.
But what got me was the way the Aunt started out, rough and un caring but with a little help from a boy and a horse foal named John. The Aunt saw for herself that being caring and opening up does more then acting rough and uncaring. I really also enjoyed the views of Sable Island.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bonding with wild horses and different generations, November 21, 2009
This review is from: Touching Wild Horses (DVD)

We and our two Alaska Huskies settled down during a chilly November night in the Heartland to watch the movie which simply presented a story on an isolated but lovely island with just a few humans and some beautiful wild horses. Nothing high tech and absolutely no long car chases!

The movie met all our expectation --story of a young boy sent to his aunt who works with the horses on the island. His family has a lot of problems and fighting, and one can only hope the quiet island, the aunt and the horses can heal his pain.

But there are glitches, even in the island environment. The boy tries to learn what his aunt (the ever beautiful Jane Seymour) is like and what she expects from him. Also the very simple life, compared with the city.

There is only one other character with any real time in movie ---the wilderness bureaucrat, played by Charles Martin Smith. (He's older than his wilderness bureaucrat in "Never Cry Wolf," but still feisty.)

The horses are in the background for a while, and then an orphaned foal grabs at the boy's heart, and we wondered if all that built up might come crashing down.

Watch the movie, with any pets you might have. You will all enjoy it.

I came across the last 30 minutes of this movie on one of the women channels and became so ingrossed with it I had to see the whole movie.

I went to several rental places, unable to either rent or order it. Thank God for Amazon.com.

This movie is so great, I have watched it three times since recieving it. It will become a standard in our home.

4.0 out of 5 stars good for older kids, November 21, 2006

Good story about helping those who are hurting and helpless. Held my attention to the end. The horses are beautiful. There was one crack at the Catholic church for its stand on morality. My 8 year old was a little disturbed by the nightmare sequences involving the deaths of a character's family members.

The boy has nightmares about the death of his sister and father which starts out as no big deal but then the movie shows the sister and father dead in coffin size holes in the ground at night in a graveyard with skulls scattered around. Nasty image. Some adult content too. There are better horse movies to choose from out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jane Seymour blew me away!, September 3, 2008
This review is from: Touching Wild Horses (DVD)
I had no idea that she could play such a moving and provoking role. I first saw her in Somewhere in Time (just loved it) and other films where she showed her "softer" side. This movie displayed a very different Jane. I was convinced by her acting and could totally relate to the predicaments all three found themselves. I'm not sure that younger children would "get it" but the messages are loud and clear and worth hearing again and again. Kudos to the author, cast & crew!

5.0 out of 5 stars Touching Wild Horses, August 22, 2008
This review is from: Touching Wild Horses (DVD)
I really loved this movie. Before sharing it with younger children I would watch it first so if they want to know why the aunt has a cold heart towards her nephew in the beginning of the movie you can have a clearer understanding how to respond to it. So often we forget hardships can turn people bitter and cold because that dark cloud has never left as so warmly stated in movie Loves Abiding Joy #4 of the Love Comes Softly Series (which are my ultimate favorite movies). Having come from a hard life myself if I hadn't had a loving home and God in my life I too could have turned out differently. We are a product of our neutering or lack of it; in most cases. Sometimes I forget that we aren't promised a life without hardships as this movie shows but how we learn to grow from our adventures; that, with trust and forgiveness you can find your way back. "Love" can soften even Jane Seymore the cold hearted aunt.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Heart, August 3, 2007
This review is from: Touching Wild Horses (DVD)
Jane Seymour, Aunt Fiona a lonely reclusive life on a beatiful Island distrupted by a young 12 year old . lots of family emotions , both aunt and Mark learning to cope with each other and straining the relationship with the treasure hunting park ranger who's self centered on being the only one to stay on the island. the glue a small herd of wild pony horses
that live on the island and by law should not be touched with human hands.
Of course Mark breaks that rule as he is adjusting to seeing nature ,and a young colt thats lost his mother , surival ,from the compassion of a young boy , who through his lost helps the colt to live and helps his aunt fiona to find her family love ,faith , compassion for family.
A very good movie to help all the family to see relationship between people and nature. worth seeing and putting in your library for those cold family monents that need stirring up with love.
