Richard L. Curwin, Ed.D., is a professional teacher, consultant, seminar leader, and author based in San Francisco. He received a B.A. in English and a doctorate in education at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He has won several awards, including the 1995 Chief Crazy Horse Award for courage in reaching discouraged youth. He is the author of Rediscovering Hope: Our Greatest Teaching Strategy. Allen N. Mendler, Ph.D., is a school psychologist, teacher, educational consultant, and seminar leader based in Rochester, NY. He received his undergraduate degree in psychology and education from Queen s College, his master s degree in psychology from Alfred University, and his Ph.D. in psychology from Union Graduate School. He is the author of What Do I Do When...?: How to Achieve Discipline With Dignity; Just in Time: Powerful Strategies to Promote Positive Behavior; Motivating Students Who Don t Care: Successful Techniques for Educators; Power Struggles: Successful Techniques for Educators and others. Drs. Curwin and Mendler are the authors of Discipline With Dignity for Challenging Youth and The Four Keys to Effective Classroom Behavior Management: Building Community, Motivation, Responsibility, and School Safety.
