This review is from: Tough Times Survival Guide Volume 1 (Paperback)
Tough Times Survival Guide Volume 1 is an excellent resource in these troubled times. Given the fact that when times are tough, you generally have two options: Spend Less or Make More, the book is broken down into two sections: Making Do with Less and Employment and Money. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that I often found myself saying, "I'm not that desperate," especially when reading the sections on Dumpster Diving and Full-Time Tent Living (My wife would say "NO," to both). Having said that, the book is still an entertaining and useful resource, plus you never know when things could really get difficult and dumpster diving might be an option. In addition, the sections on Haggling and Avoiding Bank Fees are quite useful. This is a compilation of chapters from several different books, so there is a ready-made set of resources for further reading as well. I think Paladin Press is one of the most interesting publishers out there in terms of alternative thought (they seem interested in promoting freedom through knowledge).

A great basic guide to surviving in good and bad times.,

This review is from: Tough Times Survival Guide Volume 1 (Paperback)
The beautiful thing about this book is that it is a text that is made up of not just one author, but numerous writers contributed a chapter on the many aspects of survival. This volume explains how to fix things to make them last, how to get food, get building materials, dumpster diving methods, finding free computors, full time tent living, living on the streets, the underground ecomomy, how to find a job and much, much more. This book is entertaining and highly informative.
In conclusion, if you are into survival living, this book is a must to own. Rating: 4 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale. (Author: Never Trust a Politician).

It is what they don't tell you,,,,

My problem with this book is that while you may not spend any actual currency for half of these projects, they fail to tell you how much of your life you will actually be giving up in order to fulfill them. I lot of the information is stuff you can pick up with a little imagination and a problem to solve DIY style. The price wasn't too bad for these books, but the information is quite lackluster for what it promises. There are some useful tips and tricks, but they could be found for free with a quick search online. Overall I had to give it a two star since it does have some worthwhile info but lacks some basic reality explanation. Much of the information in this book can be found elsewhere without purchasing the book.
