He plays ice hockey several days a week and he assumed the new inline skates would not be any different than his ice skates.

These skates are fantastic for amateur hockey, for intense recreational skating, and for anybody who's looking for a step up from the middle shelf at WalMart. They come with indoor wheels, so those wear down like crazy on pavement. Tour skates run a size large, so if you wear a size 11 shoe, get a size 10 skate. They've got an excellent feel to them, respond well, and are great for flat surfaces. I wouldn't recommend them for up or downhill, since they're really designed to be sturdy and turn easily.

These are great skates for casual roller hockey. The padding on the sides really reduces blisters. But I would recomend wearing two pairs of socks as there are some uncomfortable areas in the skates but with two socks they are not noticeable. Great skates for the price.

Skates came next day and fit perfectly. Been breaking them in for 2 weeks here and there. Solid skates worth every penny. I recommend these for any serious skater or just someone looking to play roller hockey on the weekends.

These are great skates i will be doing next season in them, outside pickup games, and just skate with my friends at teen night at the local skating rink. They have not let me down yet, and they have great support, and very comfy

I work at a skate rink and I've seen lots of kids come in to the rink ecstatic that they have a new pair of hockey skates and can't wait to show them off to their friends. Unfortunately most of their parents have gone for the cheapest pair of hockey skates they can find, 909's, which I will say are a great pair of cheap skates for a kid who will grow out of them in a few months. But past that, you get what you pay for, within months of buying them new all of the kids complain about not having any ankle support because the boot has caved in, this is a combination of bad skating form and bad skate design/quality. I've also noticed lots of twisting from the plates, something that should NOT happen, especially considering the level of skating most of the kids are doing.
So overall, decent skates for little kids still growing, but they should not be a long term investment.
