Historically Intriguing, December 26, 2006
This review is from: A Tour of the White House (DVD)
First of all, you can buy this through the JFK Library for about $10 so don't pay the $40 that is offered on this site. On with the review... Yes, it feels old-fashioned, stilited even but as a portrait of Mrs. Kennedy and as an "inside" look at the WH at that time, it is priceless. It is very genteel and very interesting but you have to be a Kennedy or WH buff to get very interested in it.

The TV Tour by Jackie Kennedy, June 20, 2008
This review is from: A Tour of the White House (DVD)
Conquer My Heart Historically I am grateful the network saved this live tour of the white house by former first lady, Jacqueline Kennedy. It was exactly what I watched on TV when I was only a teen. She was my idol. I think every girl needs an idol, especially one that could pull off such refinement and feminity yet a powerful personality in her own right. Much like Princess Diana. They weren't perfect, but who is? I don't see such strong women any more. I'm glad I can watch this and see the White House as it should be.

A Wonderful Slice of History, November 16, 2011
The day of Jackie Kennedy's funeral, PBS aired this show, and I taped it. In the 15 years since I have watched it countless times, I find it fascinating. Alas my video finally bit the dust, and I looked to buy it on DVD. Yes, it's poor quality, it was poor when I first watched it and so it this. I grew up watching snowy tv so this doesn't bother me - people used to high def might think otherwise. But for US history fans, or lovers of Jackie, this is irreplaceable. She used no script, the two principals just winged it. Now, as for the DVD itself - who wrote the commentary on the back? How did Amazon let this go by? Poor English doesn't begin to cover it, I wonder if this was done in another country, it looks like it was written by someone for whom English is a second language. And alas, there's a defect in my CD and it's going back, but I'm getting another, this is nothing against the show itself. Look past the quality and recognize this for what it is - the capture of another era, when the country was fascinated with its presidential couple and constant criticism of same was years and years away. And the show only ran the one time, how fortunate it was saved for future generations.
