This review is from: TourLinks Dog Bone Shaped Putting Green (Sports)
The base stand sets this apart from other putting greens. The ball rolls all the way down into the cup just like a real green rather than just putting at a surface target hole...boring! The base is very sturdy and stable and is nothing to put together since it is just 2 interlocking pieces. The mat that creates the greens surface is basically just a carpet and thus can have some minor wrinkles in it. It also has a grain to it so that if you rub it one way it will ruffle up and the other way it will smooth out. I have it set up so that I'm putting just one way with the grain and it rolls perfectly like the best bent grass green you've ever been on stimping at about 10 or so. When I tried it the other way against the grain the ball had a hop to it off the putter face and there was a funny break near the hole. The little pieces you get that slip under the mat to create break don't really make a break like a real green so I don't use them. With the grain my putts go dead straight and its a fantastic practice device when used that way. Another problem is that there really isn't much room to stand on the unit and putt. You have to place the ball near the edge when standing on it. I built myself a little stand the same height as the green so that I can stand off of the green and putt more from the center rather than the edge and get a perfectly true roll. The carpet itself even though it has a standard carpet backing is not at all like the normal indoor putting mat surfaces which are basically just an indoor/outdoor carpet. This surface is more akin to the surface of a pool table and like I say once the surface has settled in on the base it is like putting at Augusta rather than putting on a carpet like other indoor greens are. Its not perfect but its pretty close to the real thing.
