An Absolute Must Have,
By Joy (Boonton, NJ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Touring the Angel: Live in Milan (W/Dvd) (Dig) (Audio CD)
One word AWESOME!!! Disk one - Footage of Depeche Mode's Touring the Angel concert demonstrates the reason the band has been my absolute favorite for the last 15 years. Disk 2 has great clips of the band speaking about the album and their thoughts about their future together along with the tour announcement and other great extras. The bonus Playing the Angel Live CD is a definate must have for any DM fan. I highly recommend this DVD to anyone who "Just Can't Get Enough" of DM like me.

PROBABLY THE BEST DEPECHE MODE DVD,
By
This review is from: Touring the Angel: Live in Milan (W/Dvd) (Dig) (Audio CD)
After watching the 'Exciter Tour' DVD, I was quite skeptical about what the future would hold for Depeche Mode. Dave's performance then seem considerably weak, and their live shows from just lacked the heart and soul from their previous ones.
Then 'Playing The Angel' came out, and I was amazed at what a great album they put out after a very dissapointing 'Exciter'. The songs on 'Angel' seemed full of energy and made to be played live. This DVD does complete justice to all that Depeche Mode has achieved in more than 25 years. When it comes to the performance of the classic hits, Dave's voice sounds better than ever and the performance by Fletch, Martin and the guest musicians are just superb. The 80s might be gone, but Depeche Mode is still going strong... and this DVD proves it.

precious and immortal things,
This review is from: Touring the Angel: Live in Milan (W/Dvd) (Dig) (Audio CD)
a dazzling and rocking collection of audio and visual offerings from the immortal ones. Somehow they managed to hold onto their immense talents and continue to raise the bar. The songs are infused with fresh blood and the energy that Gahan brings to the picture is palpable. I am so glad that he survived to deliver yet another thoroughly satisfying mystical release with cohort Gore. Keep the magic coming, boys. You've tapped into something quite cool and lasting.

A tarnish on the very best,

This review is from: Touring the Angel: Live in Milan (W/Dvd) (Dig) (Audio CD)
Went to see this concert in Chicago for my third Depeche Mode show in the last decade. The show was so good that we bought tickets for the second engagement which unfortunately didn't occur due to Mr. Gahan being ill. I used the money that I saved from this cancellation to purchase the deluxe edition of the show. First off, let me say that I am happy with the purchase. The quality of the audio is fantastic and allows me to relive the concert I enjoyed so much. As to the video, I find the stop action/swerving camera/in-out fades to distract greatly from the simple pleasure of watching this show. I like the "One Night in Paris" and "Devotional" videos much more because they show the show without the consistent attempt to add artistry to an already great show that doesn't need that distraction. I hope that they will come out with a more straightforward video for our enjoyment. Buy this DVD/CD set, listen and continue or learn to love DM.

The best DM live dvd by far,
By
This review is from: Touring the Angel: Live in Milan (W/Dvd) (Dig) (Audio CD)
This is by far the most enjoyable dvd by DM. Yes i am sure that Devotional DVD and Exciter DVD were great but in terms of denstiy and powerful, it seems that this dvd is better, Anton is great for making music video but i don't think he is good for live performance as the camera angels in Devotional DVD and Exciter DVD looked plain and focus too much on the screens and stage (which he designed). Yes, i agreed with other reviewers that there're a bit too much of effect on this
dvd but that's the way of making live dvd nowadays. However, i have to admit that the performace of 'Personal jesus','Enjoy the silence' and 'Never let me down again' these 3 all times in set list in this dvd aren't better than the versions in Exciter dvd which more enjoyable. Great tracks : A question of time,Policy of truth,Behind the wheel,World in my eye and Walking in my shoes Highlight : Just can't get enough and Everything counts (Remind me how great these old synth pop songs can be grown and sound so much fresh after 25 years).

touring the angel effects on dvd,

This review is from: Touring the Angel: Live in Milan (W/Dvd) (Dig) (Audio CD)
this is the video of a live concert...i saw one of their shows live and this dvd does not gives the feeling of the live show itself...it focuses too much on the effects(which were nothing really new or special anyway, for DM shows), on the bands faces and it leaves the crowds feeling too much outside...if someone buys this to capture the feeling of a live show will be dissaponted. for me, the "one night in paris" dvd is way better

After all they've been through these almost 30 years since they first came on the scene,
it's great to see them back onstage and performing in near top form! There are plenty of hits represented on here from "Violator", "Songs Of Faith & Devotion", "Exciter" and others past albums as well as a real blast from the past when they perform the synth-poppy early 80's hit "I Just Can't Get Enough", which they always say they hate to play. I prefer the DVD to the CD in this set just because I like to match the visual to the music, but my partner says that the CD sounds great in his car. This is a definite must have for Depeche Mode fans or fans who never got to see them live in their hey-dey!--Good stuff!

Before I saw the concert I loved this group. Now is my favorite. I had wached it more than 5 times and still not tired of it. I even have a 17 Depeche Mode Audio CD in my car that I burned from before now it's updated with the new songs. I recomended it to a friend and he also sees it over and over everytime he has a chance. In the Tour Documentary they said they try to top the current tour over the last one. I can't wait to see what they'll come up with next.

They have yet to disappoint....,
By
This review is from: Touring the Angel: Live in Milan (W/Dvd) (Dig) (Audio CD)
...and this is NOT a bad purchase. This is a beautiful-possible-final document of one of the GREATEST Pop/Rock bands of ALL time. I read a 'bad' review or 2 before purchasing this, and as usual-review's tend to suck-pardon my english-but they do-thus the point of me writing this.
For a Depeche Mode fan....a 'real' one anyway, nothing Depeche Mode has ever done really was a disappointment, so the review's that slander the very dependable name of DM I tend to take with a pound of salt-and I am glad I did. The gig is actually one of the best i'v seen on video from ANY band. The setlist is very good, and Dave's voice is splendid as well as Martin getting his much deserved 'spotlight time' as well (although, he could do without the feathered/silk Roman head gear :/ )! Anyway, I could ramble on of it's greatness or you can simply take my word-I rarely review anything, but I felt this item needed some justification. Don't settle for the DVD only, get the Ltd. Edition....SO worth it. Enjoy! Love-A very devoted fan.

WOW!!! INCREDIBLE !!! - Depeche remaines fresh,
By
This review is from: Touring the Angel: Live in Milan (W/Dvd) (Dig) (Audio CD)
Depeche Mode has for 25 years remained on the cutting edge, and masters of both studio, of live brilliance. Their sound is constantly evolving yet remaines distinctively, Depeche Mode. Even by Depeche Mode standards, this one is first rate.
Everything is as near perfect as the band has accomplished to date. Anton Corbijn's stage design is captivating and original. Christian Eigner and Peter Gordeno are establishing themselves nicely after two tours with the band; and are making fans ask, "Alan who?". Andy Fletcher remains as the band's "glue". Martin Gore's voice, costum, songwriting, and presence are a step above any other point in career. What can one say about Dave Gahan's voice and passion for performing? Unbelievable. Freaking WOW! Add all these perfect ingredients to producers, Blue Leach, sit back and enjoy the best concert on DVD you may ever see. |
