If you're thinking about traveling to Mexico or would like to learn more about this country, this is an excellent all-purpose travel video. Beginning with a history of Mexico, Touring Mexico shows which cultures are indigenous to the country and which sprang from the Spanish colonization of the 1500s, and it examines the revolution of the early 1800s, in which the Mexicans tried to win back their country. The video focuses not just on the tourist hot spots such as the Baja peninsula, but also on many important historical sights, including places in Guadalajara and Teotihuacán, as well as the ruins of ancient Aztec civilizations. Alluring shots of the countryside and elegant cities will entice viewers to see this gorgeous country with their own eyes. --Samantha Allen Storey

5.0 out of 5 stars This Spanish teacher has used this one in class for years, September 21, 2008
This review is from: Touring Mexico [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have used "Touring Mexico" in my Spanish class for years as an introduction to Mexican culture, history and geography. It is a quick-paced movie that does not dwell on one particular theme for any great time, but does not leave you feeling like you are being shorted, either.

The only weakness to the movie is the music and video is a bit dated - some shots from the early '80s anda reference to discotheques come to mind - if someone snorts about that in class I remind them that a "dance club" is just a re-named disco!

The movie lasts about an hour and I primarily use it on days when I'm out of class for the day. I made a little worksheet to go with it and it becomes an easy day for the substitute teacher.
