But the rest of the book is also pretty great: Aiken has painstakingly outlined a region-by-region tour of Vermont's major roads and curious side trips, with clear markers to help the reader find each museum, swimming hole, or antiques shop. It is also stuffed with helpful, well-organized information, including maps and the addresses of chambers of commerce. Eager to share the results of years of exploring his home state, Aiken writes with the freshness of a person seeing the scenery for the first time.
