Franco: The African Maestro,
By muntu "muntu" (cuba) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Et Le Tout Puissant Ok Jazz (Audio CD)
I hated Rhumba Music when i was growing up, it always seemed like the stuff adults listened to after consuming "nyama ya choma" or goat meat and then washing it down with the local beer. Not too long ago as i shuffled through the dusty LP collection, i came across Franco and his marathon performance of "Mario." The man is simply a genius, and has single-handedly transformed African Music. His voice is coarse but nonetheless appealing to the ear. I hardly understand a single word he says but i feel the universal sound of music in his songs which often deal about the hurdles of life. I cannot say much more instead i urge you to dive into Rhumba if you haven't done so already, there is a nice pot of gold in every song.
