5.0 out of 5 stars Well-Made Popsicle Molds with a Few Minor Comments
These molds are very well-made, and my three-year-old son LOVES them. He likes the rocket ship shape and that we can make all sorts of flavors. Of course, I don't tell him that our home made treats are healthier than most of the ones you buy in the store (we usually just use fruit juice), and he's none the wiser - yet.

3.0 out of 5 stars These are ok but not spectacular
In all fairness to this product, I have yet to encounter a fantastic Popsicle mold. However, just like other reviewers have noticed, the anti-drip mechanism guarantees that you will inadvertently dump a puddle of melted Popsicle on your shirt while eating them, and it's hard to open them without running them under hot water for a while, which just adds to the melti-ness...

Here are some positives:
- They can be removed one at a time.
- Making popsicles at home us MUCH cheaper than purchasing them at a store.
- The base and molds are extremely sturdy (much sturdier than they look in the image on Amazon)
- The molds fit snugly into the base so they won't fall over.
- The tops of the molds snap on, so they will not fall off easily when putting the mold tray in the freezer.
- All parts are top rack dishwasher safe.

A few very minor negatives:
- The tops leak a tiny bit if you invert the molds before freezing, but then again, why would you do that?
- The top have handles that have a slight indentation that collects a tiny bit of water in the dishwasher, but if you wash them by hand or place them just so in the top rack, this isn't a problem.

And, a few tips:
- If you use plain fruit juice, be aware that freezing takes away some of the sweetness, which could be compensated for by using juice that is slightly sweeter than normal.
- Try using pudding instead of juice (we're vegan, so we've used vegan pudding), or even pureed fruit, which is healthier than juice.
- Melted ice cream also works.
- To remove the popsicles from the molds, run them under hot running water for a few seconds, then give the molds a jiggle and a squeeze, and they will remove just fine.

All in all, these molds are wonderful, and we would definitely purchase them again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love them!, June 28, 2007

My molds came the other day...
I LOVE these molds!
I love that I can pull one out at a time.
I love that I can wash one mold and refill it when I'm ready.
I love that DS is eating fruit pops when he wouldn't eat pieces of fruit.
Yes, they're more than the ones I got at the dollar store... but totally worth it! I was worried (until I got them) the molds would be unsteady in the tray... they're totally steady and I expect these will last many summers.

We are very happy with the quality of these molds. They are very sturdy and have not broken like the many previous sets of ice pop molds we have bought before.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great popsicle molds, February 20, 2007
This review is from: Tovolo Blue Rocket Pops, Set of 6 (Kitchen)
These molds have made making my own popsicles a snap! I used all my Meyers lemons for the juice and simply popped them into the freezer and within 3 hours I had a whole tray of refreshing popsicles. Also saved myself $5.00 each time I made a new batch. Before I was spending at least $20/week to buy several boxes at the grocery store.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bought one to try -- back for more, May 13, 2010

I bought this mold for my 6YO daughter. She has severe food allergies (she's g-tube fed and safely eats three solid foods), so all commercial ones are out. But she wants an "ice cream treat" just like her brothers, so we've tried just about every freezer pop mold out there. They just haven't worked (too flimsy, don't fit in the freezer, too big, etc.). So at this point, I'm a desperate mama, trying to find SOMETHING that will work for her (and me!).

These are PERFECT.

Firstly, they're individually frozen, not frozen together as a big block of pops, so to get one out of the mold doesn't mean defrosting the entire batch in the process. Running it under warm water for a second or two didn't melt it into oblivion, either. The water caused the mold to visibly come away from the pop and slide off (so no running it an extra few seconds to "make sure" it would slide out and melting half the thing in the process). All of this also means she can help herself and doesn't need somebody to always hop up and get it for her.

Secondly, the holding tray base is a solid piece, so I don't have to worry about trying to balance the popsicle ends on the wire shelves of my freezer. Plus, once they pops are frozen, I can take them out of the base and lay them in on their sides in the door shelf of the freezer. Much better than halving half a tray of popsicles taking up an entire shelf.

Third, the portions these make are very reasonable. One pint of strawberries plus 1/3 cup each sugar and water filled all 6 molds with a little mix leftover. Ok, if you're a hungry grown-up, take two. But for a child, they're a very nice size. She was actually able to finish the entire pop in one sitting. Usually I have to throw 1/3-1/2 of an uneaten popsicle away because it's just too much.

Finally, the shape itself was a hit. Comparing it to the cheapie ones her brothers had -- except for the stick, hers looked EXACTLY like theirs. Maybe not a big deal to an adult, but for a child who is so used to everything being obviously different, this is HUGE. (And honestly, after seeing how easy these are, and how nicely they work, I'll probably buy another set of molds instead of more popsicles for them!)

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect, lots of fun, April 8, 2010
This review is from: Tovolo Blue Rocket Pops, Set of 6 (Kitchen)
Overall this is a great product. It is much more durable than other pop molds we've tried. I absolutely LOVE the tray and love that it's easy to remove just one pop at a time, unlike the molds that are one piece so in order remove one pop you have to take the whole mold out of the freezer and run water over it (usually accidentally half thawing some popsicles you don't want yet, then having to re-freeze). The fact that the handles are reusable and we don't have to fiddle with popsicle sticks is great. You can also take the frozen pops out of the tray and put them in a bag or box to take up less space than any popsicle tray does.

The shapes come out great after I run a little hot water over the outside of the plastic mold. They come out relatively easily and hold the shape, but requires a little wiggling and patience (don't try to pull too fast). Other shape molds have had my kids in tears over the fact that the shapes get messed up when you pull out the popsicle so this is a big plus. ;)

My only major complaint is the size of the popsicles. They are huge. My kids almost never finish them. The same company has a ring pop mold that provides smaller popsicles, but it doesn't get good reviews for durability.

Also, the drip tray in the handle doesn't help that much with containing the mess--maybe it could be a little wider or something? As other reviewers stated it collects the drips, but doesn't contain it well and tends to spill out onto clothing very easily. I feel like the kids get just as messy with this as with a regular popsicle stick w/a paper towel wrapped around it.

Personally I don't care about the popsicles being messy and we mostly eat them outside anyway, but why bother having the drip tray feature if it doesn't really make a difference.

All in all, we are very happy with these and are going to get another Tovolo shape for this summer!

These are the best Popsicle molds I have ever tried.
Our favorite treat so far has been frozen v8 Fusion Strawberry Banana - I couldn't believe how many popsicles we could make with just one container of juice.
It is a huge savings over store bought popsicles.
The only drawbacks which would make me take half a star are that they are difficult to remove from the mold, and the drip catcher is not that effective, so we have to hold a paper towel around it to avoid a mess.
I would definitely recommend these as a fun, healthy, inexpensive and better tasting alternative to store bought.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love the Nostalgia!, August 8, 2009
This review is from: Tovolo Blue Rocket Pops, Set of 6 (Kitchen)
Today is Painfully hot. Brutally Hot. Record breakingly hot. Every air conditioner in town is sold out Hot (I kid you not). Patience are running ultra thin....what's a mom to do? Make popsicles! I just got these wonderful Tovolo popsicle molds this morning and my son is enjoying his first one (about four hours later) as I speak. Boy do they soothe the over-heated four year old beastie.

What I love about these, apart from their cool look (we got rockets and stars), is that you can control the ingredients. When your kid is already cranky, the last thing you want to do is add refined sugar to the equation, not to mention the toxic dyes and who-knows-what that you find in many commercial popsicles. We were in a rush, so we just put some organic strawberry, and mango lemonade in ours and they worked just fine, but I can see some brilliant potential. You could do coconut milk with fruit, green smoothie, pureed watermelon...the options are endless. They would also be great in the winter when your child is sick and won't eat.

Another thing I'm a stickler for--they are BPA free. There's no waste, you can use them over and over, and they are very well made. You can choose from different shapes and colors and they're packaged in a nice box which makes a gift-worthy presentation.

The kids think they are sooo fun and you can make healthy popsicles inexpensively, instead of sugar water ones from the store. I make a smoothie out of blended OJ and strawberries and the kids love them!
