I've used several ice pop molds over the years, and up until now I thought Tupperware's pop molds were by far the best. These Tovolo molds lack the ability to replace either the cap or the handle (they are one molded piece) but the plastic used in the cap/handle and the mold is easily the best I've ever seen for pop molds. It's too early to predict how well these will actually hold up after dozens of freezings and thawings, but if the quality of materials is any indication, they should last a long, long time.

One month later:

While I still think these are overall the best pop molds I've ever used, I did discover one thing about them (the hard way, naturally): don't drop them on anything hard (i.e., a tile floor) after they've been in the freezer for a day or more. The yellow caps/lids tend to get brittle after freezing, and they will crack and/or break. The opaque molds don't appear to have this issue, although I don't plan to intentionally test their break-resistance threshold.

Five years later:

After several unsuccessful attempts to fix the cap/lid, I gave up, retired it and use the mold whenever I have a little extra liquid left and scoop it out with a spoon.

The molds are still in use and holding up quite nicely. They are still the best pop molds I have ever used.

My kids love making these popsicles. The only thing I can say is that they are awful big for kids. My kids can never finish one of these because they are so large.

...I go out of my way not to have every little new fad that comes along in my kitchen. Garlic peeler...bah. Apple corer...who needs it? Avocado saver? Just eat the damn thing, already! My rule is, if I can do it some other way than with a gadget, that's the way I'll do it.

But, I live in the way Deep South, where it gets hot and sticky and humid. And a girl can only drink so many mint juleps or mojitos and hope to keep her girlish figure!

I love popsicles! Love, love, love the way the first lick is full of frost and sticks to my tongue a bit. Love the swirly fruit flavors and creamy ice cream textures. Love the almost painful cold sliding down my throat. Even love the brain-freeze when I get too enthusiastic! But, the popsicles sold in the store are full of ick! High fructose corn syrup! Why? Why would you adulterate something so full of awesome with something so icksome?

I've tried making my own before, but the molds are too flimsy, too small, too difficult to manage in the freezer.

I took a chance on these molds, and I'm glad I did. The design is genius. The tops of the popsicle molds lock into the tray! No more wiggling and struggling to get the goodies into the mold without spillage! The cap and stick are all one piece, which some may not like, but it suits my purpose. The tray, molds and lids/sticks are sturdy - they feel substantial enough to be long-lasting. And there's no BPA to worry about, either. I just put the molds into the tray, filled 'em up using a ladle, snapped the tops on, and popped them in the freezer.

No more HFCS. No more unpronounceable ingredients. Just my own blend of blackberries, buttermilk, a touch of oregano and raw honey, blended to a perfect soupiness and ladled into the molds with minimal dripping.

These molds looked flimsy in the photo, but they are sturdy. I use them daily and there is nothing I've found that comes close to being this good. They are easy to handle and stand up straight in the base, no tipping. Easy to wash, they don't stain and the pops slide out of the sleeve handily after being put in warm water for a few seconds. Best of all, the molds are individual. The sticks stay in place, too. I make fudgesickles by doubling diet packaged hot chocolate (Nestle or Swiss Miss), letting it cool and pouring it in the molds. Each mold holds 1/2 cup liquid ...terrific! Cristal Light is great, too (mix it a little strong). Have treats all day and stay skinny!

I see that I'm not the only one that had issues getting the popsicle OUT of the mold.

These are nice, sturdy popsicle molds. They make big pops and I love how the molds are not permanently connected to the base. However, the first few times I made popsicles, it was almost impossible to get them out of the molds! I ran them under hot water until the pop was half melted, then they'd release. Or I did some hot water and then spent 5 minutes or more wrestling the pop out. I must say I got a good upper arm workout with the latter method.

I was about to give up and toss these in the trash when I had an idea. Before filling, I sprayed the inside of each mold with a little bit of Pam. It worked beautifully! Each pop now releases with a quick run under hot water. The Pam doesn't affect the taste at all. So I hope my trick helps someone else before they give up on these molds.

If the popsicles were not such a horror to get out (without my trick), I would have given this product 5 stars.
