Product Description

Surprise the kids with these new Tovolo Ice Cream Pop Molds. You can kiss those ice cream cone troubles goodbye with these soft-serve style cones that catch sticky spills. The base features a hard "cone" that mimicks the look of a real cone, except it is reusable. Fill the top sleeve with your favorite ice cream, yogurt, or other beverage, twist the cone on, set into the base and freeze. You can slip out one cone at a time and keep the others frozen. The insulated plastic sleeve keep your pops colder for longer, when in action outside the freezer. The base keeps the pop molds secure from tips and spills inside the freezer. Comes in a set of 4. Dishwasher safe.

I purchased these for my kids to have their frozen fruit and yogurt this summer. They love the fun shapes and enjoy helping Dad scoop the chopped up fruit and vanilla yogurt into the molds. The molds remove easily and wash up quickly, with no foul smells remaining or staining. They aren't too big either, so there isn't any half-eaten pops being tossed in the trash. These are a great buy and worth every penny-we now have 3 different styles in our kitchen.

Really cute design. Great for little hands and seems very well made. Easy to use, easy to clean. The cover comes off very easily when it's time to eat. The whole base takes up very minimal space in the freezer. I bought them to make momsicles for my 5 month old. He can hold these easily with both hands (with assistance to keep them upright of course.) :) I look forward to using them as he gets older.

Also, I believe another reviewer was uncertain if this product was BPA free. I went to the manufacturer's website and it stated that they were. Bonus.

UPDATE (6/13/12)
=============================
I dropped one of the molds today while taking them out of the freezer. They dropped probably about 4 feet, and the stick part of the cone broke off. I imagine that most plastic containing frozen liquid will break when hit at a right angle. As I consider this "user error" and not a defect in the product, I will leave it a 5-star review. However, I will probably not buy another set since I can (and probably will) drop these again in the future. Click under the product picture "View and share related images" to see a picture of the break.

ORIGINAL REVIEW
=============================
I've been eyeing the Zoku (Zoku Single Quick Pop Maker, Purple) that I'd seen at Williams-Sonoma, but I wasn't sure how much I'd use an ice pop maker, so I decided to test out this less expensive Tovolo mold first to see if I'd use it a lot.

Primarily, I use it to freeze yogurt.

It does seem small compared to many other molds. With a 6-oz. cup of yogurt, I'm able to fill 3 molds. They are not extra-large, so I know there won't be leftovers from my 3-year old who can't eat a whole big popsicle yet. Also, I like the small portion-control aspect so I don't over-indulge.

PROS:
1. Big grip for a toddler
2. Big drip-catcher (cone is hollow inside to catch a lot of drip)
3. Slides out easily
4. Makes small popsicles
5. BPA-free plastic
6. Cleans easily in dishwasher (dishwasher-safe)

CONS:
Don't have any so far.

The popsicles slide out very easily when you give a few gentle twists side to side.

I own two other Tovolo ice pop 'models' (the Groovy Pop and the Star),and the only knock against those models is that they make a very LARGE icepop; sometimes you just don't want quite that many calories, LOL. On the other hand, the Jewel Pop model is clearly too small for adults (not to mention way too cutesy) and many reviews say that they break easily. This model seemed to be the perfect midsize compromise which is why I ordered it.

However, I was disappointed to discover that the design of the faux-cone base, and of the "stick" component, is entirely different from the larger models. The inside of the Groovy and Star mold bases is smooth and relatively flat, and thus is very easy to get clean. Likewise the stick is flat as well (as you'd expect an icepop stick to be). However, in this model the stick is not flat, the shape is like two sticks merged into a + shape which is not only harder to get clean (it also has the same holes the flat sticks do) but doesn't work as well with icepops that contain fruit. In addition, the inside of the base is not smooth and flat, or is it an open hollow like a real icecream cone is; it has open compartments inside it that are a real PITA to get clean, especially if the pop contains bits of fruit.

I wash my pop molds by hand, but IMHO if anyone were to put these pop-bases in a dishwasher they would probably NEVER get clean because there are far too many spaces, openings, and crevices in it. Very disappointing pop base design. If they'd made it flat like the others, these pops would have been perfect. I am returning mine.

based on the reviews of other tovolo molds being too big for children, i went with these molds for my almost-2-year-old.

they're sturdy, a great size (molds hold about 1/3 cup of liquid), and the cone-shaped holder is a good drip tray for little hands. they're also easy to hold onto. the stick on the holder that goes up into the mold seems pretty solid - i would be surprised if it broke off.

the only reason i gave this product 4 stars is that the description and packaging don't indicate whether or not they molds are BPA/phthalate-free.

We read the reviews of this product and thought it best for our two toddlers.

The moment we took them out of the freezer having made some delicious smoothy pops, something seemed not quite right with the plastic, it seemed a lot harder than it should. I followed the instructions on the packet and the clear plastic shattered.

We tried another one which came off easily and my 2 year old loved it.

Then the third attempt to remove a pop - the stick shattered. ( I was not pulling hard!!)

I am going to return them, it may be that something was wrong with this batch of plastic. I thought it warranted a report here as it is worrying that this plastic was so brittle after freezing especially given it is for small children.
