5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful steamer
I really like this steamer. It is great for steaming a lot of veggies in a large pot. Also, because it isn't metal you don't get that weird taste that the metal steamers give off. I am going to get me a little one too!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Strap is flimsy
Before I even used this steamer, one of the straps got caught in a drawer and ripped under the slightest exertion of pressure. I pinned the strap back together temporarily, and it worked pretty well, but I wish it wasn't so delicate.

5.0 out of 5 stars great product, July 23, 2009

-flexible, so it fits in many sized pots - tho it can be a little difficult to squeeze it into smaller ones
-no metal parts to scratch non-stick coating, if that's an issue
-so easy to clean - throw it on the top rack of dishwasher!
-handles make it simple to take out of pot (and they don't get hot)
-plus, it's cute (strange thing to say about a steamer basket, but it just is!)

I bought this to use in my pressure cooker. Wow, it was a real champ holding that meatloaf up out of the water, and the handles were easy to manage when it was time to lift the meatloaf out. Bonus, nothing sticked!

I'll be using this for veggies in my regular pot, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Real Winner --Tovolo Red Silicone Steamer, 8 Inch, January 30, 2011

Nice inexpensive, unique gift for the woman that thinks she has everything. I got this for my wife as a present as she uses stainless steel steamers which are difficult to move when HOT. She had never heard of these silicone steamers. She used it last week and was very impressed. She stated it was nice, especially because you could lift it out of the pot by its handle. I checked out the material after it had cooled and it held up just fine. I do not know how this kitchen aid will hold up over time, but here in the short-term, it was and is a REAL WINNER !

3.0 out of 5 stars Steamer Review, February 15, 2012

My daughter requested this as a Christmas present, complete with link. I did look at a few other places, online and in stores, but could not match the price. The shipping was as much as the steamer. I believe she liked it as she seemed very excited on Christmas. The speed of the shipping was great. I received it before Amazon estimated it would be shipped.

1.0 out of 5 stars Destroyed With The First Use, January 16, 2012

I am amazed that I am the only one here who seems to have had this problem, and I would love to know what caused it!

I was so excited to get this steamer. It was edgy and different, and I could barely wait to use it.

I finally did so, last night.

Having cabbage on my menu, I decided to steam it rather than boil it, I would steam it.

I have steamed a lot of cabbage in my day, and was absolutely not prepared for what happened in the next few minutes!

After I cut the cabbage up and put the steamer and cabbage in the pot to steam, I turned to prepare the fish portion of dinner. Six minutes later, the timer went off, and I went to take the cabbage off the stove.

There was white stuff all over the lid of the pot. I quickly removed the pot, pulled out the Tovolo silicone steamer, removed the cabbage, and could see that the bottom of the pot was covered with the same white substance.

I flipped the steamer over, and the whole thing was coated with this powdery substance! The inner ring, which has three little leglets, was not only white with powder, but two of them had turned into stubs, and I could see the inside layers of the coating, which looked like white powdery sugar sandwich cookie wafers!

The outer ring of legs was essentially the same, though they were not as damaged.

Who ever heard of a steamer which can be destroyed simply by being used as directed??

There is no way to contact the manufacturer, which I would have liked to do just to see what in the world that white powder was!!!

Needless to say, I returned the Tovolo silicone steamer, which actually took more of my time than the item cost, but it is the principle.

I would never buy a Tovolo product again.

4.0 out of 5 stars silicone steamer, January 1, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I find this steamer a bit large for the pan that I use most. I would order the smaller one for most uses. It works great. I like that it doesn't scratch the pan surface and has a handle. The handle is nice, but cuts down on the clearance needed to have the lid fit tightly. I am satisfied with it and if I needed to replace it, I would order another from Tovolo. Items that I have steamed have cooked exactly as I wanted.

2.0 out of 5 stars I REALLY wanted this to be the steamer for us..., November 8, 2011

I really should have listened to the reviews before making this purchase. We mostly use this to steam a head of cauliflower or some broccoli. When we place this in the pan we used to use for steaming with our metal steamer this fits nicely until you add any veggies. The base is too high and when you fold down the handle it makes it so the lid won't lay down on the pan. I have tried to tuck the handle out of the way and it still seems to take up too much space in the pan. I tried to use it in a larger pan, but the footprint is too small so the veggies were falling off the sides into the water below. The only cure would be to get a taller pan. So, this is fine for a single serving or two small servings, but doesn't work for us. It seems durable and would work with the right pan, but not with our 3 quart sauce pans by all-clad and cuisinart or our stock pot (too wide). Might have to get a new metal one.
