To julienne carrots, you have to press very firmly. If you do it right, the results are great. It's nice that it stands on its own and you don't have to lay it on your counter top.

This gadget seemed like a good idea and a handy one to add to my kitchen tools, but it doesn't really make julienne strips which are like match sticks. I tried it on a carrot, and it produced long very fine strips which did not resemble julienne strips but looked more like long strands of finely shredded carrot. It didn't work that great on zucchini either. Most of the strips were ragged and uneven. I also thought it was awkward to use and basically useless and potentially hazardous on an item that is not as wide as the blade on the peeler. I thought this would work well when I needed a small amount of julienne strips for a quick stir fry, but the strips come out to thin to be of much use for a stir fry. I do not recommend this item for making julienne strips. If you need julienne strips, use a mandoline or sharp knife.
