4.0 out of 5 stars One star off for design flaw.
These popsicle molds are very cute and make cool star-shaped popsicles. I've had no trouble getting the popsicles out of the molds. The box recommends squeezing the tube slightly or running it under warm water, both of which really help. However, the aptly named drip tray is too shallow. My son is four years old and the popsicles that this mold makes are so big and heavy that he doesn't like them. We also have a hard time finding room in our freezer for the set.

These popsicle molds are very cute and make cool star-shaped popsicles. I've had no trouble getting the popsicles out of the molds. The box recommends squeezing the tube slightly or running it under warm water, both of which really help. However, the aptly named drip tray is too shallow. Melted liquid accumulates and pours out of it after a while. You're substituting several small drips for one big one. Not a huge issue, but annoying. The only other thing is that it does take up a lot of room in the freezer (see the dimensions). Overall, I'm happy with them. The stand makes them easy to fill and they could be taken out of it when frozen for better storage ease. Maybe the drippy issue won't be a problem once this summer heat wave is over. Plus, it's great to make my own popsicles and leave out all the funky additives and coloring that are in commercial brands.

These popsicle molds are not only good-looking, but also solid and sturdy. They fit into their base firmly, which you wouldn't know by looking at the picture. I love that they can be individually removed from the base as well as individually filled with whatever you want. I fill mine with yogurt sweetened with orange juice, stevia, and fresh fruit chunks. This makes for a much healthier snack than the popsicles you can buy at the grocery store.

4.0 out of 5 stars Big fun, May 18, 2007

My kids and my neighbors' kids love the popsicles I make with these. They are huge. Since they need to stand up in the freezer until frozen, you really need to make sure you'll have room for it in there, it's probably around 6" tall, and 5" wide. Also, when they're frozen they're really easy to crack. The plastic casing cracked when I dropped one on the floor, can't use it again. Run warm water over the outside to loosen the popsicle enough to get it out.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE THESE!, August 15, 2007
I was looking everywhere for popsicle molds. Who knew they would be so hard to find? These are wonderful! Hold just the right about of liquid to freeze, easy to clean, and they're kind of cool looking. At first I thought it was a pain to keep them upright on that stand in the freezer. Then I clued into the fact that I could take them off of the stand once they froze so they wouldn't take so much room. Duh.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy-to-use & safe-plastic popsicle molds!, June 20, 2008

I researched quite a bit before making this purchase and I'm so glad I did! The Tovolo popsicle molds are fantastic!! They are easy to use, easy to clean and they have used non-leaching plastic which makes me very happy (I contacted Tovolo directly to confirm this)!

The size of the popsicles is rather large -- but we've been making healthy fruit-yogurt smoothie pops at home and my three year old can easily polish off an entire popsicle... so the size isn't a problem!!

Be sure to leave a half an inch or so when filling the popsicles or as they expand in the freezer they may spill over. That happened to us once, but the base captured the spill over so the clean up was really easy. They do take up quite a bit of space in the freezer when they are first freezing, but as long as you leave adequate space when you first fill them (so they don't spill over and get sticky), you can remove them from the base and tuck them anywhere in your freezer.

This is a fantastic summer cooking "tool"... and we've been giving them to our friends as presents and so far, everyone else has loved them too!

4.0 out of 5 stars Like to be able to make my own popsicles, October 26, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I like that I can make my own popsicles since I can only get a few flavors at the store. Getting one for my nephew so he doesn't get all the sugar from the store-bought ones. Takes up a lot of room in my freezer though. And it will drip while eating it.

4.0 out of 5 stars great ice pops, May 12, 2007
This review is from: Tovolo Star Ice Pop Molds, Set of 6, Green (Kitchen)
We love these. My daughters love their ice lollipops and I like being able to give them a treat where I can control the ingredients. I water down 100% juice (using flavoured sparkling water gives a little zing), also use stoneyfield smoothie yoghurt drinks diluted with a little milk for a yummy frozen yoghurt treat. Very easy to use, healthy and good to the environment too.

1.0 out of 5 stars The "cuteness" is deceptive: dribbles everywhere & not at ALL fun to eat., July 8, 2010

As another reviewer noted, it's seemingly impossible to eat these without dripping ridiculously all over oneself. Most (if not all) people tilt a popsicle towards themselves to eat it rather than holding it perfectly vertical & still. The way this drip-tray is made, the juice accumulates & then spills over the side while you're attempting to enjoy your pop, & it dribbles all over you periodically. If there was a feasible way to suck the juice out of the drip tray to prevent the dribbles, I'd give it another point -- but short of whipping out a straw to periodically suck your popsicle juice from the tray, there is no solution to this design flaw. Popsicles are supposed to be fun, not high-maintenance! Add to that the horrible design -- the star shape looks cute, the molds are easy to fill, yada ya - but none of that matters much in my book if you don't have an enjoyable, chilly treat at the end. Nothing enjoyable about this eating experience. The shape itself is awfully big for even some adult mouths, and the ridges/points of the star make it impossible to "latch" on & actually suck on your popsicle. A totally unsatisfying experience & waste of money.
