This is a critique of the methodology of finance, which aims to advance methodology and meaning as important concerns of finance and stress the importance of a philosophical perspective on finance. It discusses what this philosophy of finance is, what it might be and why philosophy has not mattered thus far. Chapter 2 looks at traditional science and its underlying belief structure, whilst Chapter 9 describes alternative methods by which finance as a social science can be studied. Another chapter envisions the research opportunities which would arise if finance were to broaden its scope to accept new methodologies and methods and to broaden its reward structure to recognize the accomplishments of researchers who apply them.
