5.0 out of 5 stars Beginning Wicca February 1, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
If your just getting into Wicca and/or Witchcraft then this is one excellent book to start with. Sorita d'Este give a thorough and basic over view for the new comer. Her first discussion starts with an analysis of the difference between Paganism, Witchcraft and Wicca. They're used interchangeably but they are not synonymous. Being a Pagan someone who worship old deities is not the same as a Wiccan who believes in a God and Goddess and honor the divine feminine as well as believing that all Goddesses are one goddess and all gods are one god. Wicca is a religion and it is a form of witch craft. But a witch is not necessarily a Wiccan.

The next over view discusses the definition of magic. Which means to influence reality in accordance with ones will. In this guide one is taught about the beginnings of Wicca and it's origins. There are lessons on how to cast a circle, call the elements and how to reverse the ritual and open your circle.
Each chapter or lesson has written exercises at the end of it along with references for further reading.

This book could be used in tandem with other books or it can be used as a stand alone. It's main strength is that it is simple to read and follow. There is nothing confusing about it in any way shape or form. I feel this would be a perfect book to start with. Further on you could get "Solitary Wicca" and "Living Wicca" by Scott Cunningham. To be honest I think I got more out of Sorita's book then I did with Solitary and Wicca. If you are a beginner then start with this one. Those who are intermediate will probably get a lot out this book as. Great job Sorita this book is excellent. I wish it was the first book that I had read.

5.0 out of 5 stars It cuts off the fat and gets to the point February 16, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I downloaded this book and also The Cosmic Shekinah by the same author for free, having liked her books on Artemis and Hecate. The book is a good starting point for beginners who want to become members of the religion of Wicca. I say religion of Wicca, because far too many books I've read on Wicca address spells and magic over everything else, like Wicca is just a practice to get what you want via spells with no religious qualities. I blame the media for making TV shows and movies that make teenagers think spells are all you do to become Wiccan. It is so much more than that. This book shows the history of Wicca and covers a bit of Thelema too, without being too new age or wishy washy. She also explains how a pagan can be a Wiccan, but doesn't have to be.

It's far more sophisticated than books like Teen Witch, that's for sure. There are exercises at the end of chapters even seasoned Wiccans could do with good results. This is one of the best concise books I've read on the subject, not much of the book wanders or is off track, like I've seen other books do, where the author spends time feeding the reader whatever agenda they have. If this book was a steak, the fat would be cut off of it, it's super lean and to the point. No filler. I highly recommend it, especially since it is free (it was at one time, it's 99 cents now), to both people who feel the call of Wicca and also to those who aren't Wiccan and don't understand it, for this book will show you that it shouldn't be feared. Wicca is a religion that should be respected, along with Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, etc. It is a serious book too, well researched and intellectually expressed.

This is one of the Most Perfect books for a beginner to start with or even for someone who has been practising for a while to read. I read information in it that I haven't read in other books.

It goes into detail of why we call the Goddess/God what we do and tells in detail of why we use each tool as well as cast the circle and more.

I am recommending this book to all of my students and Wiccan friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very helpful for a beginner.. February 17, 2013

I am a bit new to Wicca, though I have been studying it for years. I just never got into all the details, as it wasn't my religion, though as I implied, it has always interested me.

I needed something good, and something cheap that offered what most 101 books offer, but in a way that actually taught me something. So after testing it through Prime, I bought the Kindle Ed.

The info here is accessible, and easy to understand, without being too lightweight, or too heavy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple and to the point. August 5, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
All of the material that needs to be covered, is. This is an excellent primer for the individual curious about Witchcraft or the individual starting out as a solitary without any real guidance. This book gives all of the basics in a clear and concise manor. Reading this book in itself will not make you a witch, wizard, sorcerer, magician or priest(ess). But, it will give you enough information to start out on the path. What you achieve is up to you and how much study and effort you put into your work. This is an easy read and well worth the time.
