Editorial Reviews

Review

Professor Chossudovsky's hard-hitting and compelling book explains why and how we must immediately undertake a concerted and committed campaign to head off this impending cataclysmic demise of the human race and planet Earth. This book is required reading for everyone in the peace movement around the world. --Francis A. Boyle, Professor of International Law at the University of Illinois College of Law

In a world where engineered, pre-emptive, or more fashionably "humanitarian" wars of aggression have become the norm, this challenging book may be our final wake-up call. --Denis Halliday, Former Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations

This book is a 'must' resource - a richly documented and systematic diagnosis of the supremely pathological geo-strategic planning of U.S. wars since 9-11 against non-nuclear countries to seize their oil fields and resources under cover of "freedom and democracy". --John McMurtry, Professor of Philosophy, Guelph University

Michel Chossudovsky is a known researcher and writer who is easily left of center; his greatest value lies in his presentation of truth in detail, something the neo-conservatives (far right of center) are incapable of doing. Anyone who demeans this author or his work is evidently incapable of understanding that Dick Cheney led the telling of 935 now-documented lies in taking the US to war on Iraq and in Afghanistan.

The book is NOT easy to read, with small print and 70 distinct separately titled pieces, all well-organized but reading like an op-ed book. The author also over-states, in my view the threat of a global nuclear war, while very pragmatically outlining the many ways in which the US and NATO are giving all indications of both tolerating an Israeli attack on Iran, perhaps with an Israeli nuclear bomb into Iran so they can pretend that they destroyed a nuclear facility that was no nuclear at all.

This is not a nuanced book in the sense that the author condemns "the US Government" as a monolyth, rather than the more artful distinction among politicians that have been bought, political appointees that have been gifted a job, senior civil servants confusing loyalty to the chain of command with defense of the Constitution, and then a broad cast of traitors and subversives from neo-conservatives to envangelicals, Pentecostalists, Opus Dei, the Mormons, long-term penetrations of the FBI and DEA and CIA by criminal gangs as well as Wall Street financial families, and so on.

Where I differ from the author is in stoutly maintaining that the US Government as a whole consists of good people trapped in a bad system.

This author is spot on and many of the critical reviews here have missed the point. Its not just the possibility of nuclear war, yes that point could be argued but the likelihood of a WWIII materializing is extremely high. The fact is like the most valuable review indicates is Chossudovsky has done his home work, follow his links and you discover his work is not just couple of facts based, but hundreds, thousands of public information, governments own publications fact based. It is clear the US is way out of aggressive control, it is clear the US financial system is under huge strain, and that all over this world, peoples rights are being trampled in the guise of protecting us from terrorism. Study the century of wars and one can easily surmise history is repeating itself where world financial powers line up, take sides, allowing war to profit and overhaul broken systems. Clearly the USA will never be able to repay its debts, profits are being privatized, debts are being socialized, pensions are being stolen, the dollar is crumbling, note the massive momentum to exit the petro based dollar. Point is there are only a couple options for the USA economy to compete; wipe out its debt either by mass financial depression / currency devaluation, plummet western salaries/pensions, fake the bank"ruptcies to cover 700trillion in derivative losses and/or by going to war with creditors and competitive adversaries.
Certainly Chossudovsky leans left but his well researched facts are ..... facts.

This is a book that causes one to think. It is well-researched and startling. That is a good thing for the intellect. And for some reason we are headed in this awful direction without much writing on the subject.

I have not finished this yet, I'm about one third through it.
Very informative in straight forward manner. It basically updates the reader
on policy changes many of us may be unaware of that have occurred incrementally
over the decades. I highly recommend this book, because, it makes one aware of
the principals of engagement in the global war Theatre in the current age, leaving the
reader with a clearer understanding of the current age, rather than relying on bits and pieces
of news reports etc.

For those who want to know more of the reality that exists beyond the controlled western media, this is a good read. I would also recommend Fletcher Prouty, Paul Craig Roberts, William Enghal and Chalmers Johnson. Of course when one opens Pandora's box the contents may not be what you expected and if one does not want to disrupt one's ignorant bliss, I would say these are not for you,

Obviously written from the "America is the problem" point of view. This guy needs to realize just how great this country is and how terrible the world would be without it.
