I don't do much in the way of surgery, so I'm not sure that I'm 100% qualified to have an opinion on "surgical huck towels", but I do wash my cars & motorcycles and spill stuff and change oil and fwap my kids when they walk by. So apart from the surgical use, I guess I'm not completely unqualified.

This is a good pack of shop towels. These are much better than the shop rags that I buy at auto stores for garage cleanups. My typical shop rags are only good for oil changes: I would never touch something valuable with a shop rag--they're just for cleaning messes.

These huck towels are pretty nice though. They're bigger than a shop rag (16" x 25") and the quality is much nicer. Not that I'd want to use them on my body, but they're perfectly suitable for drying our cars & motorcycles. They stay together pretty well and don't generate any lint that I can detect.

You get a pack of twelve and the bundle is actually pretty big. They all have nice square corners, unlike my shop rags that were puckered at the corners even when they were brand new. You can also pick from an assortment of colors. I haven't tested these for color-fastness yet, but I'd be nervous about the brighter colors (fuchsia or orange). I've accidentally had one of my red shop rags sneak into a load of laundry with other clothes, and it wasn't pretty. The color is already faded enough on these blue towels that I wouldn't panic if one went through the wash.

EDIT (1/3/11): We just returned from a four day camping trip and I forgot to pack enough dish towels. I discovered that these towels work great in the kitchen as dish towels or tea towels. I don't think I'd want to mix their use though: either use them as shop towels or kitchen towels, but not both.

These are NOT quality surgical huck towels! They are coarse, rough, hems are fraying, thread count is very low. I've have a few from a friend who is a professional window washer, his are smooth, fine thread, high quality, very absorbent.

I've attached a pic comparing the two, draping over my monitor to show the quality & thread count difference.

These blue towels are perfect for kitchen use when you need a low lint or no lint piece of cloth for straining or squeezing the juice out of something. They're just the right size for handling hot pots and ovenware. They come by the dozen, so when it's dirty, pitch it in the corner and grab a fresh one. They're surgical grade, so they machine wash and dry well. The more you launder them, the more absorbent and softer they get.

These towels are OK for the price and for basic function. But - they are not regular surgical towels. They are like surgical towels.

The good news is that yes, they are very handy.

In the time of "greener" alternatives, these make a decent replacement for paper towels and can even serve as regular napkins. The white "terry cloth" towels don't work as well as napkins - but these could work if you are not worried about impressing a date.

get these if you are looking for a cheap and more versatile towel than the regular white terry cloth towels, just don't expect these to work as surgical towels or to have the same thickness or durability.

These are sized like dishtowels, but really thin and flimsy... and surprisingly effective. I meant to use them for cleaning glass, but now I have some in my kitchen and some in my bathroom, and I find myself grabbing for them every time I have a small mess to clean up, from children's watercolor adventures, to bathtime splashing. Despite not being fuzzy terrycloth, they absorb water quite well, and don't leave lint behind (on the rare occasions that I use one on glass). Plus they're surprisingly inexpensive--last time I bought dishtowels I think I got 2 of them for somewhere around $6, and this pack is surprisingly large--12 towels for $8, so there's always one around when you need it.

Not particularly absorbent, rather lint-y for a surgical huck towel. drying glasses, lint all over.

Got these recommended by Tim Ferriss, 4 hr Chef. At least they were cheap. I hope they get better after a few washings.

FYI.... these are not sterile, they need to be washed before first use. You can get microfiber cleaning towels at the $1 store.

after 3-4 washings, they became more absorbent, and now I really like them. Good for wiping things and drying dishes.

I can recommend these!

I bought these towels for cleaning purposes, based on my research they're supposed to be lint free but they're not.I'm not sure what to use them for now as they don't work for the intended purpose.

I got these to use on my car, but since we're still deep in the heart of a never-ending winter, I haven't had a chance to do that yet. In the meantime, though, my wife and I have kept them in the kitchen to dry dishes, and I'm not that impressed. The rough texture probably works well to get dirt off a windshield or off a car, but it doesn't do well getting water off a clean plate. They don't absorb well so I have to keep drying for quite a while.

They're a nice size, plenty big for drying/cleaning larger items, but - as my wife pointed out - they get very wrinkly. Not sure that's such a big deal when I use them on the car, but thought I'd mention it anyway.

Maybe when spring hits and I use them as they're intended, on my car, I'll have a different opinion, but at the moment - when they're not holding their own against a basic dish towel - I'm not that impressed.
