Update 11/26/10: This cage is NOT for kittens. Kittens 4 months old or younger can get out through the bars on bottom door. Older kittens may be able to as well but I haven't tried it. The little suckers turn their heads sidewise, as well as their shoulders, then their hips one at a time. It's is something to behold. Of course once out they can't get back in.
Orignal review: It was not hard to put together. It's a little wobbly at the top when the cats are in it. It sits on a nice plastic tray that's very easy to clean. The main problem I have with it is that my two cats (1 yr old) have a hard time getting from shelf to shelf. I think the shelves are too wide for them to feel confident jumping on. It's hard for them to get in a position far enough away from the other shelf to make the jump. They end up having to jump straight up instead of at an angle, which evidently they don't like to do especially when there is nothing to grab onto if they miss. The shelf is a bit more than half the width of the cage. My cats climb up the sides of the cage to get to the next level. They're very cautious of going down to the next shelf too. This was not a problem I expected. They're young cats, they jump on plenty of things. The wide shelves are a good thing when they're hanging out in it but not when moving up and down. I don't think kittens would be able to get to the shelves either since they are so far apart. You'd need to add ramps which would be tough because they would almost be vertical. I bought two of these. One is at a foster's house. She put together just two levels and put a condo inside instead of a shelf. She says it's working for her. I also bought the 3-level cage from Midwest. The shelves aren't as deep. It's being used at another foster's house for a bunch of kittens. We did put ramps in the cage for them to get from level to level (they're very wee). The cage doesn't wobble like this big one but there is much less room. It could just be my cats but when I buy another cage, I probably won't buy this one again. That's why the three stars.

This item is made very well and it was super easy to put together. It is sturdy and a very safe place for my cats.
It meets all of my needs for the care of my two furry friends. Great deal too..I looked at 58 other metal cat condos which were smaller and more expensive and not as well made.

This cage is fantastic, it's taller than me (5'7")! I do cat rescue and I've been using it for months now. You will not find anything like this for a better price! One thing you may want to note is that if you use it for kittens (which is what I have been doing) you will need to make something for them to be able to get from one level to the next because the levels are too far apart for kittens to jump to. We remedied this by taking two 2x4's and attaching carpet to them. We also tied the 2x4's to the cage so the kittens couldn't knock them over.
