Second only to Charles Perrault in the field of fairy tale literature, Madame d'Aulnoy has now achieved the fame and legitimacy that she so warmly deserves, thanks in part to this jargon-free study of the psychological basis and impact of her work on other writers of her time and in subsequent generations. Professor DeGraff has admirably synthesized the literary and aesthetic importance of this body of work that is now receiving a great deal of scholarly attention.
