A Great set of songs by all the Town Hall regulars- Beautiful booklet and that snazzy cover make this a great sampler and a typically fine product lovingly compiled by German company, Bear Family.

All their merchandise is of superior quality!

5.0 out of 5 stars History of Country Music on Vinyl, July 21, 2010

This review is from: Town Hall Party (Audio CD)
This album holds an important place in my own personal history, as well as that of an era gone by. My father is the young man perched on the scaffold next to the Collins Kids. He was on the show "Town Hall Party" in the 50's when he was a high school student in Compton, California. On his first appearance on the show, the announcer impulsively changed my father's name to from "Bobby Griggs" to "Bobby Charles". (A fact that didn't make my grandfather, basketball hall of famer Haldane Griggs too happy)

The songs on this album embody the heart of country music reminiscent of a time when songs were used tell the stories of a human heart. Though many of the artist on this album are gone now, I can happily report that my father is still around and still writing and producing music. He has since, returned to one of his first loves, jazz and to his real name "Sir Robert Charles Griggs".

Though the "Sir" part was added by Capital Records when they released his album "The Legend of Sir Robert Charles Griggs" in the 70's.

After being unofficially "knighted" by Capital Records, the name "Sir Robert" stuck with him and became the "gig name" he is still known by today. He has recently released a jazz album "Sir Robert Charles Griggs, Into Jazz".

He will soon be returning to Nashville and recording there as well. This particular "Town Hall Party" album was re-released on cd format, but I would love to find another vinyl version if anyone out there happens to have one.
