2.0 out of 5 stars dull, June 21, 2008

This review is from: Town Without A ZIP (Paperback)
The storyline/plot is a good one but what makes a book really good is when you can relate to the characters or at least have some sort of feeling for them. I never got a sense of what any of these characters were about, or who they were- they were all very lifeless. I found myself skimming the last 1/4 of the book, I wanted to find out what happened but really could not have cared what happened to the characters themselves, whether they lived or died did not matter.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best Eamon Wearie mystery, December 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Town Without A ZIP (Paperback)
Sean McGrady's newest--and best-- mystery really kept me glued to the page with its intricately woven plot and its terrifying trip into the mind of a madman. And again McGrady takes us into the weird world of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and their "dead letter" division. But the best part of McGrady's Eamon Wearie's mysteries is Eamon Wearie, himself. What a great character! Flawed but loveable, Eamon is the reason I read McGrady's books!

2.0 out of 5 stars Author failed to research hero's agency, June 13, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Town Without A ZIP (Paperback)
There was no research done into the hero's agency, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. Absolutely none. The story wasn't too bad, however. But it helps to read this story before looking into the USPIS. Otherwise, knowing the flaws, you'd catch yourself saying "no way!" constantly. Some examples: The USPIS is in no way a second class agency to the F.B.I. They don't take the F.B.I.'s discards. They do their own recruiting and have their own academy. I personally know one Inspector that jumped ship from the F.B.I. to the USPIS as a rookie, because of the superior treatment the USPIS gives their agents. For example, every Inspector has a private office, even the rookies. Also, in working their cases they make most of the decisions with only occasional direction from their team leader. Most F.B.I. agents have cubicles and have to ask permission before doing just about anything in their own case.

Another glaring mistake: The USPIS uses no military ranks. Where did Eamon get the title "Lieutenant"?
