my secret shame,
By Jessica (Bacliff, Texas USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: O-Town (Audio CD)
okay. i'll admit it. really, it's time to step out of the dark. i am indeed addicted to o-town. it's quite pitiful actually. i didn't make plans on friday night, in anticipation of making the band. i refer to many of the guys by their full names (ashley PARKER angel. . .erik MICHAEL estrada). like any overly obsessive o-townie (i just made that up. . .clever, eh?), i know that dan miller brings the energy to the group, and that's something ikaika never offered. i acknowledge that trevor is hideously ugly, but there's something endearing about the passion he has for being in a boy band. jacob looks like a huge poser with his nail polish and dreads, but i want to marry his voice. even though they're more manufactured than any other boy band out there, and lou "call me big daaaaadyyyyy" pearlman handpicked them, this cd is infectious and addictive. that's the plain and simple darn truth. i don't like nsync, the backstreet boys, or 98 degrees, so please don't think i'm some boppin' lil girl who is only giving a positive review b/c the guys are "hottttt". (actually, most of them aren't) each song has managed to trap me. believe me, i've tried to pass this little obsession off as a joke, but. . .it's not. scary. here's a bit of insight on each song."liquid dreams" - so cheesy. it took me a second to realize that the whole concept of the song is *gasp* dirty. it's very easy to catch yourself singing along, though. "every six seconds" - one of those songs that just squirms into your brain after you declare that you absolutely hate it. it's priceless to hear trevor saying seductively "halfway to the towel's as far as you get!" "girl" - yeah, so they're not inventing the wheel here. yes, the lyrics are quite generic, but the beat and the delivery of the song is what makes it a winner. "sexiest woman alive" - my personal favorite line is 'had sushi in japan, used to think i was the man'. if they can work japan and man into rhyming lines, it's worth a listen. "love should be a crime" - the BEST song on the album. easily. it's better than any song a boyband has done before. really great. "shy girl" - how many songs about a girl are on the album? hmmm, let's count. . .all 12. that doesn't mean they're any less addicting, though. this song is cute. "all or nothing" - really pretty. i don't know if these guys really sing like that, or if big daddy pulled those vocals from studio magic. "sensitive" - who doesn't love dan miller, pouring his heart out? c'monnnnn. "the painter" - my least favorite song. it kinda just goes on and on and on. the ballads aren't the best part of the album. it's great b/c it's jivey, so this song doesn't win. "take me under" - yes, jacob underwood pullin' out a writing cred. lol. this song has lyrics that border on dirty, but they are cleverly disguised so that preteenies can enjoy w/o guilt. "all for love" - i am SO SO SO sick of this one. lol. "baby i would" - i can't help but remember the episode of mtb when they performed this one live. the choreography. lol.

NOT just another boy band,
By Canadian_Powerpuff (Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: O-Town (Audio CD)
I was expecting a total *NSYNC album or something but really, compare the two. I see next to no similarities. Also, regarding people who say O-Town's no different than other boy bands, talk to regular boy band haters, will you? Surprisingly, boy band haters actually don't mind O-Town, I know, I've checked. Here's each song reviewed: 1. Liquid Dreams-I'm sure everyone's heard this, as the debut single. 2. Every Six Seconds-I'll say it: this song is dirty. Even Jacob Underwood (of O-Town) admitted that. But it's catchy and still one of the best. 3. Girl- though I like this song summat, it's not one of my faves. Oh, and they say "girl" 109 times in a three and a half minute long song! 4. Sexiest Woman Alive- a different style but definitely one of the worst. 5. Love Should Be A Crime- awesome! More rock (does *NSYNC have rock? I think not.) and just plain great. 6. Shy Girl- v. pop but it's good and catchy. 7. All Or Nothing- the new single, it's a slow song that's already popular. EVERYONE I know (not just teens either) that has listened to this has liked it and, in some cases, changed their opinion of O-Town to a GOOD opinion. 8. Sensitive- it's catchy. I like it. 9. The Painter- a ballad. It's really quite nice but not one of my fave's. 10. Take Me Under- it's edgy and unique. Quite good. 11. All For Love- if you've watched the show, you've heard this. It's a good pop song. 12. Baby I Would- probably heard this too. It's really beautiful (where'd that come from?!) but parts just sound a bit off. Still good though. As you can see, I don't know HOW people got ideas that O-Town is just like every other boy band out there. It's one of the best albums. I am a fan but I wasn't actually sure I was going to buy this album. Serious. But I did and I'm v. happy I did. I'd advise anyone to buy this, not saying some won't like it but it's good.

Another Boy Band with really bad music,
By A Customer
This review is from: O-Town (Audio CD)
My ex-girlfriend used to play this CD in her car all the time, and fortunately, I use to bring my Discman to avoid listening to this drivel. I'm so glad I will never hear this CD again. It's just awful!! No talent, terrible lyrics such as, "like Haagen-Daas, you hit the spot?????" Who decided to add that to the song?? It sounds like the person who wrote that line couldn't think of anything else, except eating ice cream and drinking 7Up!! Also the song "Liquid Dreams" is just offensive and disgusting!Anyway, to review the music, it's typical boy band stuff with super syrupy love songs, bad, bad pop songs such as "The Painter" (by the way, what does the title have to do with the entire song?? There's no connection!!!!!) (bad lyrics, as said before) and terrible, terrible production (drum machine intact with boring beats and untalented background instrumentation) If you are into this boy band phase, listen to N Sync, or better yet, open your minds to more intelligent music with boy band appeal, like early Beatles (they were a boy band, and had much more appeal), or early Rolling Stones.
