5.0 out of 5 stars NOT just another boy band
I was expecting a total *NSYNC album or something but really, compare the two. I see next to no similarities. Also, regarding people who say O-Town's no different than other boy bands, talk to regular boy band haters, will you? Surprisingly, boy band haters actually don't mind O-Town, I know, I've checked. Here's each song reviewed: 1. Liquid Dreams-I'm sure...

okay. i'll admit it. really, it's time to step out of the dark. i am indeed addicted to o-town. it's quite pitiful actually. i didn't make plans on friday night, in anticipation of making the band. i refer to many of the guys by their full names (ashley PARKER angel. . .erik MICHAEL estrada). like any overly obsessive o-townie (i just made that up. . .clever, eh?), i know that dan miller brings the energy to the group, and that's something ikaika never offered. i acknowledge that trevor is hideously ugly, but there's something endearing about the passion he has for being in a boy band. jacob looks like a huge poser with his nail polish and dreads, but i want to marry his voice. even though they're more manufactured than any other boy band out there, and lou "call me big daaaaadyyyyy" pearlman handpicked them, this cd is infectious and addictive. that's the plain and simple darn truth. i don't like nsync, the backstreet boys, or 98 degrees, so please don't think i'm some boppin' lil girl who is only giving a positive review b/c the guys are "hottttt". (actually, most of them aren't) each song has managed to trap me. believe me, i've tried to pass this little obsession off as a joke, but. . .it's not. scary. here's a bit of insight on each song.

"liquid dreams" - so cheesy. it took me a second to realize that the whole concept of the song is *gasp* dirty. it's very easy to catch yourself singing along, though.

"every six seconds" - one of those songs that just squirms into your brain after you declare that you absolutely hate it. it's priceless to hear trevor saying seductively "halfway to the towel's as far as you get!"

"girl" - yeah, so they're not inventing the wheel here. yes, the lyrics are quite generic, but the beat and the delivery of the song is what makes it a winner.

"sexiest woman alive" - my personal favorite line is 'had sushi in japan, used to think i was the man'. if they can work japan and man into rhyming lines, it's worth a listen.

"love should be a crime" - the BEST song on the album. easily. it's better than any song a boyband has done before. really great.

"shy girl" - how many songs about a girl are on the album? hmmm, let's count. . .all 12. that doesn't mean they're any less addicting, though. this song is cute.

"all or nothing" - really pretty. i don't know if these guys really sing like that, or if big daddy pulled those vocals from studio magic.

"sensitive" - who doesn't love dan miller, pouring his heart out? c'monnnnn.

"the painter" - my least favorite song. it kinda just goes on and on and on. the ballads aren't the best part of the album. it's great b/c it's jivey, so this song doesn't win.

"take me under" - yes, jacob underwood pullin' out a writing cred. lol. this song has lyrics that border on dirty, but they are cleverly disguised so that preteenies can enjoy w/o guilt.

"all for love" - i am SO SO SO sick of this one. lol.

"baby i would" - i can't help but remember the episode of mtb when they performed this one live. the choreography. lol.

5.0 out of 5 stars NOT just another boy band, April 10, 2001
This review is from: O-Town (Audio CD)
I was expecting a total *NSYNC album or something but really, compare the two. I see next to no similarities. Also, regarding people who say O-Town's no different than other boy bands, talk to regular boy band haters, will you? Surprisingly, boy band haters actually don't mind O-Town, I know, I've checked. Here's each song reviewed: 1. Liquid Dreams-I'm sure everyone's heard this, as the debut single. 2. Every Six Seconds-I'll say it: this song is dirty. Even Jacob Underwood (of O-Town) admitted that. But it's catchy and still one of the best. 3. Girl- though I like this song summat, it's not one of my faves. Oh, and they say "girl" 109 times in a three and a half minute long song! 4. Sexiest Woman Alive- a different style but definitely one of the worst. 5. Love Should Be A Crime- awesome! More rock (does *NSYNC have rock? I think not.) and just plain great. 6. Shy Girl- v. pop but it's good and catchy. 7. All Or Nothing- the new single, it's a slow song that's already popular. EVERYONE I know (not just teens either) that has listened to this has liked it and, in some cases, changed their opinion of O-Town to a GOOD opinion. 8. Sensitive- it's catchy. I like it. 9. The Painter- a ballad. It's really quite nice but not one of my fave's. 10. Take Me Under- it's edgy and unique. Quite good. 11. All For Love- if you've watched the show, you've heard this. It's a good pop song. 12. Baby I Would- probably heard this too. It's really beautiful (where'd that come from?!) but parts just sound a bit off. Still good though.

As you can see, I don't know HOW people got ideas that O-Town is just like every other boy band out there. It's one of the best albums. I am a fan but I wasn't actually sure I was going to buy this album. Serious. But I did and I'm v. happy I did. I'd advise anyone to buy this, not saying some won't like it but it's good.

1.0 out of 5 stars Another Boy Band with really bad music, October 9, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: O-Town (Audio CD)
My ex-girlfriend used to play this CD in her car all the time, and fortunately, I use to bring my Discman to avoid listening to this drivel. I'm so glad I will never hear this CD again. It's just awful!! No talent, terrible lyrics such as, "like Haagen-Daas, you hit the spot?????" Who decided to add that to the song?? It sounds like the person who wrote that line couldn't think of anything else, except eating ice cream and drinking 7Up!! Also the song "Liquid Dreams" is just offensive and disgusting!

Anyway, to review the music, it's typical boy band stuff with super syrupy love songs, bad, bad pop songs such as "The Painter" (by the way, what does the title have to do with the entire song?? There's no connection!!!!!) (bad lyrics, as said before) and terrible, terrible production (drum machine intact with boring beats and untalented background instrumentation)

If you are into this boy band phase, listen to N Sync, or better yet, open your minds to more intelligent music with boy band appeal, like early Beatles (they were a boy band, and had much more appeal), or early Rolling Stones.

2.0 out of 5 stars All over the place, January 25, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: O-Town (Audio CD)
I honestly wanted to believe this album was going to be good. I mean here we have five guys who worked to make it. We got to see every little step they took on TV and of course you wanted to root for them. But as much as I wanted to believe I had to face reality. They are an extreme wannabe clone of N'Sync. The album goes from super sappy pop to look at me I can be down with hip-hop/r*b. The music lacks production and the music lacks a concept. The mediocre single Liquid Dreams (have you heard the lyrics!?) and the song Girl are the best songs other than that you're looking at one of the most dissapointing albums.

3.0 out of 5 stars O TOWN SUCCUMBS TO THE LABELS DEMANDS., February 4, 2001
By
This review is from: O-Town (Audio CD)
I watched "Making the Band" from beginning to end, and I saw that this group has a lot of potential and still does.

Unfortunately the songs that I heard on the TV series such as "Say, Say" was not put on the album, and the R & B Rock Infected "You Bring Me Under" was retooled to a safer, mellower "Take Me Under".

Also I have to say the loss of Ikaika from Hawaii and his extremely rare vocal range is not heard on the newer recorded version of "Baby I Would".

The album is good, "Liquid Dreams" is a nice safe R&B song, "Every Six Seconds" is a good dance tune, and "Girl" is a cute love story, however like that one band member said who I can't remember his name (I think Jason) said, "You Bring Me Under" will either get dropped from the album or shuffled in the middle...Which exactly the label did.

These guys have talent, unfortunately they can't bring their writing skills to the forefront. To be honest when I heard "Say Say" and the original "You Bring Me Under" I was really excited about this album.

Now it is just middle of the road pop. The producers and MTV formulated them into a safe, polished bet. Pity.

I hope these guys make enough money that they can get out of under the shadow of Lou Perlman and his entourage to show the talent they really are.

This is not a bad album, it is good, but just safe.

4.0 out of 5 stars On Their Way!, January 27, 2001
By
Jack (Indiana, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: O-Town (Audio CD)
As a 30 year old guy, I'm not really "in to" the teenage boy-band craze. However, I thought it would be interesting to watch the ABC show "Making the Band" and see how groups were started. It was very entertaining and interesting to see the "inside" view of the business. I wasn't sure, however, if the young men of this group would accually "make it" in the recording industry. I bought the CD, to see....

This is a good first CD. The music, however has the same theme to it, which I found a little too repetitive. But considering the intended audience, appropriate. Some songs I liked more than others. The first song, which is the title song of this album "Liquid Dreams", was not very appealing to me. It struck me as some kind of "spoof" one might find on an Al Yankovic recording. However, listening to it a few more times I found that it grows you.

I was suprized to see how nicely "All for Love" and "Baby I Would" turned out. These two songs were featured on the TV show, on which it was portrayed as if the guys couldn't get it together. Most of the time they were off-key and it seemed that they were never going to get the "hang" of this "professionial artist" title. They were far from being professionial. With the enhancement that the studio did on these two titles, they have become a hit in their own right!

The one song, however, that I feel will make it big for these guys is "All Or Nothing." This has the makings of being a smash! It's style, meoldy, and lyrical performance has the potential to become the signature song of O-Town, much like "Bye Bye Bye" has done for N'Sync. I believe that "All Or Nothing" will be heard on many radio stations as a favorate dedication song. I wouldn't even be a bit surprized if this song even makes it into a major movie production.

The guys of O-Town are "on their way" to become a gold or platinum group. They still need to develop their sound a bit more, but if they are serious about this new found career, they will more than succeed, they will excel! ...

3.0 out of 5 stars Tisk, tisk, tisk., April 1, 2002

Ok, I gave it 3 stars becuase I'm torn here. I hate pop music but who can say no to o-town? Their music is hilarious!!! If you ever actually listen to the lyrics you'll laugh your [rear] off.
"I had sushi in Japan, used to think I was the man." Erik says in "Sexiest Woman Alive." Who got drunk and wrote that?
Then they have A LOT of bad parts. They can't even record an album, if you've ever heard the song "Wet Dreams" or whatever you'll notice that there is a bunch of static at the very beggining, and no, it's not my CD player's fault.
And the one, Like, Jacob or something, the one who's head looks like a dead animal. He wears the same nail polish as i do. That freaks me out.
But i still say you should buy the album. Even rockers like myself. If you're a teenybopper, you'll like it. If you're a rocker, it'll be so funny that you'll love it. But then again I may be wrong so think for yourself.

4.0 out of 5 stars The album grows on you, September 27, 2001
By
Ross (Stillwater, OK USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: O-Town (Audio CD)
Ok, ok, ok, ok.....yes, O-Town is a "boy band" and to a very large certain degree they are precreated, I KNOW all that. But, what I'm getting at is all those people who say that all those pop acts like N'SYNC, BSB, Dream, or whoever have NO talent whatsoever. Well, I can personally say that the guys in O-Town have naturally decent voices, I though have been in chorus and stuff before and I think I can sing some of their songs just as good, but you see that's not the point, they do have talent yes, but if you are comparing it to other types of things like classical and stuff then you've completly missed the point. They are NOT classical musicians, they are pop teen young adult bands that ENTERTAIN, THEY ENTERTAIN US, like Britney Spears, do you think she has practically any talent for real? Well, she can look pretty and dance well, but she does not have a good voice, but people like her because she's ENTERTAINMENT, like her and all those PEPSI commercials.
Well, now that I've gotten completly off track, back to O-Town. I personally really like them, at first I heard, "All or Nothing" on the radio and just loved that song, its such a great piano ballad and not pushed at too hard by vocals which makes it sweet as a love song without getting annoying, but after time I got to where I just had to have the single, but I couldn't find a copy so I HAD to buy the CD. I really didn't want to at all because I knew they were just going to have tons of gayness all around, but after I started to listen to the CD over and over, for some reson I really started to like it. If you are comparing this CD to other groups you won't like it that much at all, but if you see the music as it is, something different, then I think most people would have something to like from this CD, because it has pop, R&B, funk, and a lot of really nice vocals, mostly by Dan and Eric, both very talented vocally. Just take a look at the CD, I think you'll like it, and I'm even a college guy, and I like it. ...

4.0 out of 5 stars O-town's First CD, July 14, 2002

This review is from: O-Town (Audio CD)
I can't hate on O-Town. They all have good looks and equally good voices. Actually, I can't wait for their 2nd CD to come out. So, here's how it goes...

1.Liquid Dreams: This is their first single. The beat sounds like an old song, but the lyrics are really interesting. Not a favorite of mine though. (7/10)

2.Every Six Seconds: I was so in love with this song when I first heard it. This is my 3rd fave song. (10/10)

3.Girl: Warryn "Baby Dub" Campbell produced this song. The chorus is kinda annoying, but the verses are cool. Don't you get sick of hearing "girl"? (6/10)

4.Sexiest Woman Alive: This is my fave song on this CD!! This is a mixture of dark pop and R&B. It blends well together and the vocal arrangements are crazy!! (10/10)

5.Love Should Be A Crime: This is the rock song on the CD. This is my 2nd fave song on this CD. The guitars add the rock feel to this song. (10/10)

6.Shy Girl: This is the kinda song you'd expect a boy group to sing. But O-Town pulls it off. (9/10)

7.All Or Nothing: Oh no..lol. The love ballad of the year. I didn't like it when it wasn't a single and I still don't like it. Sorry. (4/10)

8.Sensitive: I think every man (or guy) can get a little sensitive at times and that's what they are singing about. This is a mid-tempo song. (8/10)

9.The Painter: Most people think this song is cheesy and really cookie-cutter, but I think its sweet. The words are really good and I think its better than "All Or Nothing". (10/10)

10.Take Me Under: This song is really good. It has a dark R&B vibe to it. Jacob Underwood co-wrote this song. (10/10)

11.All For Love- Even though I should be used to this song (by watching Making The Band all the time), but I always skip this song. It has a really lame beat. (3/10)

12.Baby I Would: Diane Warren wrote this song, but I usually don't listen to it. It's still good though. (7/10)

Overall, this CD is good, but I hope their 2nd CD is much better than this.

3.0 out of 5 stars O-Town there first album!, January 29, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: O-Town (Audio CD)
Well I am a big fan of O-town from watching them on Making the Band to other programs that they have proformed on. I couldn't wait till this album was out in stores. When I got my CD the other day I was so happy that I could finally listen to it. I'm not really fond of this CD I only like 4 songs on this CD the other songs just don't sound like something that they would sing. I recently came across some other songs that O-town had made and sang but they are not on this CD and I am woundering why because these songs are awesome. I excepted that this album was going to be awesome and I'm not really fond over. Hopefully there next album will be much better.
