5.0 out of 5 stars Love Dat Squirrel!!
In my mind, the dream sequence in Townies, the one with the happy-go-lucky, domesticated squirrel, is one of the greatest moments in cinema. But don't take my word for it, I'm not normal. I don't fit in. Then again, maybe that's why I love this movie so much. It's a celluloid love letter to freaks, misfits, goofballs, psychos, shut-ins, geeks and weirdoes everywhere...

3.0 out of 5 stars On A Whim
I purchased this film without hearing anything or reading anything about it. I've got to say, it wasn't bad. I really liked their choice of going in black and white. I think that added a lot to the strengths of the movie. I can't really tell you what the movie is about though, because I didn't see much plot when I watched it. 5.0 out of 5 stars A shining specimen of great low-budget filmic art ..., January 17, 2005

The blurb on the back claims this film is about "Schlarb, OH, a town overrun with misfits, freaks and weirdos." It may be because I am a misfit, a freak, and a weirdo that leads me to the conclusion that the "Townies" in this film are a better representation of the human race than the so-called "normal" characters. Caduceus, one of the many Townies, is by far the coolest character in the film as he becomes fed up with being treated as an inferior and sets out to teach the "normal" people a lesson they won't soon forget.
I gave this film two good viewings. The first time I watched this movie I liked it all right; but I was severely disappointed at the seeming lack of an ending. I found the film very entertaining on the whole. For a "Micro-budget" production it was very well done. The script was good, the acting was surprisingly good considering the parts were played mainly by friends of the filmmaker, and the direction and editing were spot on. After my first viewing, I decided this was definitely a film I would like to see again. After the second viewing I came to the realization that this movie is truly a great work of filmic art. Several lines from this movie were immediately added to my mental arsenal of movie quotes I keep on the ready, and I think they will stay there for quite some time. Also after the second viewing, the seeming lack of an ending didn't bother me so much. In fact, I realized that the ending is pretty freakin' climactic, and probably disturbing to normal folk. This movie is an instant classic, and has landed itself a spot on my list of greatest films ever produced. Just what spot I'm not yet sure . . . that just might require a third viewing.

The movie centers around a small fictional Ohio town. It contains many quirky if not crazy characters. The film shot in black and white reminded me of a combination of Ed Wood and John Waters, without the overly gross stuff. Two of the townies are guys who harass and play devious tricks on their "friends." This film is light years better than "Genuine Nerd" the other production by Lurid with basically the same crew. This is 4 stars on a cult scale. A normal scale it would rate a 1...or less.

F-bomb, simulated oral sex, suggestive necrophilia.

I think that added a lot to the strengths of the movie. I can't really tell you what the movie is about though, because I didn't see much plot when I watched it. But even then it held my attention through the whole movie, so I'm pretty satisfied. It was a nice little movie. The character's were cool, the settings were visually interesting, and again, I'm really digging the black and white. I think more movies should experiment with that.

2.0 out of 5 stars A blind man would love to see this movie, April 29, 2004

The description on the box is misleading. The story line is choppy, and the continuity sucks. Multiple plot lines don't climax or end and it's dry. The movies concept was good, but not properly executed. It looks like a home movie gone bad.
