Haunting, Beautiful, Occasionally Over-Mixed,
By
This review is from: Township Sessions (Audio CD)
It's an album of short remixed songs by the Mothers, which is a group of women Xhosa singers who sang jingles, essentially, to raise awareness about health issues in desperately poor areas of South Africa where AIDS is rampant and infant mortality is high. Some songs are absolutely beautiful--Milk, Faith, and Learning are my favorites--but others are overmixed. They would have been more powerful, I think, by allowing the women's voices to be the focus.
