(Spoilers for Touch)
It's no secret that I LOVED Touch by Jus Accardo. How could I not? With a tough yet vulnerable MC like Dez and the super hot and deadly yet clueless Kale, I was immediately hooked! After eagerly anticipating Toxic and after a few release date set backs, I was ecstatic when I received my review copy.

After Dez makes a bargain to save Kale's life in Touch, she is warned that there will be consequences for it. But Dez doesn't care because nothing can be worse than losing Kale, right? Fast forward to the present and Dez discovers that she has lost her immunity to Kale's deadly touch. After being the only person that Kale was able to touch, this definitely puts a strain on their relationship. But that is just the tip of the iceberg. Dez only has a few months left until she turns 18 and the Supremacy program kicks in and her dad has ordered two new powerful and deadly sixes after her. To make things worse, Ginger has brought in a new six to "help" Kale control his powers. Not only does Jade have very valuable power, she is also a man-stealing girl who is after Kale. (Excuse me while I do some breathing exercises to calm me down...OK, I think I'm good)

Jade is one of the most manipulative characters I have read about and I hate her so much with this fiery passion that consumes me and I wish she would die a horrible, slow and painful death. (Yeah, she's that bad!) There were many time when she would frustrate me so bad that I had to put the book down. Although Kale is a deadly assassin and can kill someone hundreds of different ways, being sheltered his whole life has him lacking some serious...common sense. Something Jade is not afraid to take full advantage of.

I'm finding it really difficult to write a review of Toxic, this series is incredibly popular and I seem to be in the minority in the fact that while I like it I haven't been absolutely blown away by it. I think I've had to come to the conclusion that this series just isn't one I'm going to get on with, it seems like the more I read the more irritating I find the characters and the less I enjoy the story. Although Touch didn't amaze me I did like some things about it, I wasn't a huge Kale fan because I found him too sweet and innocent for my tastes (I have a thing for the bad boys!) but after reading Untouched which is written from his point of view he really started to grow on me. I liked Dez but found that she could be incredibly naive and trusting and considering all the things she went through I thought she would have been smarter than that.

Unfortunately in Toxic I really felt like someone had given Dez a stupid pill, she spent the majority of the book either burying her head in the sand and pretending that certain things weren't really happening or acting in a completely crazy way without thinking through the consequences. I'm sure she has developed a death wish when it comes to Kale, considering that she is no longer immune to his ability to kill with a single touch she sure spends a lot of time trying to touch him. Seriously, I get that they're horny teenagers but if the choice is serious pain and possible death every time you touch your boyfriend I'd settle for just being able to spend time together and keeping my hands to myself. The way they started avoiding spending time together made me feel that their relationship doesn't have any real emotional connection - it's all about the lust and when that is taken out of the equation it's not worth the effort.

Jus Accardo doesn't have to worry about the sophomore slump because Toxic, with it's heart pounding intensity, is Touch on an adrenaline rush! Everything is higher in this second book of the Denazen Series, the action, suspense, romantic tension and definitely the stakes. There are surprises, betrayals and moments so heart wrenching, I wanted to cry. Toxic sucks you in immediately and keeps you on the edge of your seat right up to the last sentence.

Dez is still fierce and hasn't lost any of her rebelliousness but we do get to see her vulnerability especially when Jade shows up. (We are not fans of Jade's but we'll get to her in a minute.) When Dez and Kale's relationship is put to the ultimate test, she still puts his feelings ahead of her own, regardless of the personal cost. Normally, Dez goes looking for trouble but in Toxic, trouble finds her at every turn. *hugs her*

Kale is still a smouldering force of hotsauce to be reckoned with and I have to say, he's one of the more unique book boys with his mix of deadly and innocence. I love his honest take on every situation and his dry sense of humor cracks me up! Kale faces new challenges in Toxic and his true feelings for Dez are just one of the things he will have to contend with, Alex is another. My favorite quote is a Kale quote and takes place during a particularly stressful encounter involving Alex.

"If you continue to push me, Alex, I'm going to touch you. I've counted to three hundred. Twice." ~ Kale *high fives him* (with gloves on, of course.)

Jade is the new girl in town and I don't trust her as far as I can throw her. She's definitely up to something and her beauty and ruthlessness make for a dangerous combination.
