If the camera in this game followed you around better, this would be a 5-star game. It has a lot of good things about it. The levels are clever and well-designed, the missions are cool and follow the movie storyline closely. You can also skip to different levels before you've totally completed the one before it. The BIG problem with this game, as I mentioned, is the the camera. It attempts to stay behind you the whole time, but it moves all around you like crazy. You control Buzz Lightyear and you have to move him when the camera changes positions. For instance, if the camera is behind you, moving the joystick UP would move you forward. But when the camera is to your right, Moving LEFT makes you go forward. This is especially problematic when you are jumping, when the camera goes crazy and has you pushing in the wrong direction to miss your target.

Again, this is a very clever, well designed game, and I like how each of the Toy Story characters interacts with you in a different way. But the game control is extremely frustrating, and makes the game virtually UNPLAYABLE.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good game but not for all ages., May 27, 2002

Toy Story 2 is a good game with very good graphics.
It's almost like playing the movie that's how good it looks.
But be warned this game is for kids between (ages of 3 and 8). It's a bit difficult at first but once your kid plays it more then once, they'll get the hang of it and have fun.
If you are looking for a kiddie game than this is the game for you.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't think your kids will like it, March 2, 2001
This review is from: Toy Story 2 (Video Game)
We bought this for my kids (10 and 5) for Christmas. They found it very frustrating. I have not played it myself. We had hoped it would be something that the little one would enjoy, but it is hard even for the 10 year old.

Well ok. I DID like it the first few times I played it. But now I think it is one bad game. I had wanted it SO MUCH, but it is a total bust. I don't play it at all anymore. Instead I play my better games, Sonic Adventure, Sonic Shuffle, Bass Fishing, And Hydro Thunder. I'm also gonna get Power Stone 1 & 2, Marine Fishing, and Sonic Adventure 2. Of course it is an individual thing, so I am gonna let other people say it is good. I don't think people should cuss a game out. So I am saying that I don't like it in a Christ-like manner. It's boring.

Like many Dreamcast ownwers probably are doing, I have been trolling for games to get cheap ones for my dead system. I have found many that both me and my 4 year old son love to play. This was not one. I was excited about this one, as my son loves Toy Story and Buzz Lightyear. After less than half an hour we both decided that this game was way too hard.

The 3-D perspective was poorly handled by the game engine. It is virtually impossible to walk a straight line regardless of the camera style you pick. Just about every jump has to be this ridiculous double wing jump. Precise moves are crucial to complete the tedious missions that even level 1 presented, and as an adult veteran of Tombraider and Spiderman, the controls for this game just made me mad. You spend all your time trying get the right position and failing to land in the right spot. How they could make a game obviously targeted a younger gamers so bloody hard to navigate is a mystery.

Envision your child controlling Buzz on a ceiling beam, trying desparately to make him walk a simple straight line, and slumping in frustration when he falls for the umpteenth time. My son loved Spiderman on the Dreamcast, and I was trying to find something similar but less mature. Toy Story 2 was horrible by comparison. Never bought a more frustrating Dreamcast game )except for maybe Qbert). Very disapointing. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME even for 5 bucks.

3.0 out of 5 stars Like the movie., March 30, 2002
This review is from: Toy Story 2 (Video Game)
This game is hard. Not that hard, but with puzzles. You need to find tokens to get to the bext level. The tokens are hidden, like get 50 coins, five sheep, etc. Bosses are easy, and the levels are very boring. Buzz runs very slow, and sometimes you need to run a lot so its boring. There are levels that there weren't in the movie. Like construction yard, Allies and Gullies, etc. And when I got all 50 tokens, I thought there would be an extra level, but no.

I experienced the same camera problem as the previous reviewer. There is a way around that. You have to jimmy with the left and right triggers, plus the direction pad (not the stick) until you get the right angle. Then you have to jump immediately. This isn't the first game with this problem. Every game I have has this problem.

What I liked most about this game is the missions and puzzles. They are so addicting. My husband and I sat in front of the TV for a great part of today, trying to beat this game. So far, we've reached Level 15: Prospector's Showdown. You have to collect 40 tokens to play this level, and you have to store up a bunch of lives and batteries (unless you're a video game guru and can beat three bosses in the first try). You can go back to the previous levels and pick up batteries and life tokens. For all novices, I would suggest returning to Andy's House again and again for the life token in the crib. If the tedium bothers you, there's another token and a battery in the garage. Do this until you have plenty of lives to spare.

There are two reasons I give this game a four-star review: the camera problem and the annoying screech of the characters when they call out for Buzz's attention. The latter is easy to fix, though. Simply turn down (or off) the sound effects. You don't need their noise in order to find them. Good luck!
