Just like the movie, this soundtrack is really wonderful! The score is beautiful. Randy Newman has truly outdone himself. You've Got A Friend In Me in Spanish is definitely a highlight. Anyone who loves the Toy Story trilogy will love this soundtrack!

The second sequel to the groundbreaking Pixar animation comes 15 years after the original, but despite the passage of time has not lost any of its magic or charm. As well as being an excellent (and very funny) diversion for children, it's also an imaginative, nostalgic, pathos-filled treat for adults, dealing with such mature themes as obsolescence and loss. The majority of the original voice cast - Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Don Rickles, Wallace Shawn - return to join up with newcomers Ned Beatty and Michael Keaton in a brand new story where the toys are accidentally delivered to a day care facility when their beloved owner Andy goes away to college. At first happy to be played with again, the toys quickly find out that life in the day care is not quite as rosy as it seems, and hatch a plan to escape.

Returning for his third trip to Toyland is composer Randy Newman, whose witty and ironic music is always a welcome addition to the film despite his penchant for subversive sarcasm. Despite his wholesome and well-respected work on films like The Natural, Newman often pokes fun at the conventions of the American Dream, to such an extent that even when he is being sincere you can never tell if he has his tongue in his cheek or not. I guess we'll just have to trust that Toy Story plays it straight.

As usual, Newman's central effort is a song, this time the sunny and uplifting "We Belong Together", with features his idiosyncratic vocal delivery and sardonic lyrics to excellent effect, as well as an unexpectedly toe-tapping chorus. It's a great song for anyone who, like me, appreciates Newman's songs as much as his score, and is likely to pick up an Oscar nomination next spring.

What truly amazes me about this album is it's wide range of styles. From Epic, to comic, to folk, to world, there's something in here for everyone.
The original Toy Story themes are still to be heard often filtering through the new themes, but not so much that it sounds "recycled". More like a nod to the first stories, or rather, gently reminding you of where this story began. The new character's themes befit them just as well as the old character's, and the journey that they follow is tenderly documented through the music.

This soundtrack takes the best and most memorable themes in the movie and places them in an order that takes you through the movie's many moods. It is an easy listen, every track easily succeeded by the next with little jarring in the transfer.

All in all, I highly recommend this album to anyone who enjoys a good soundtrack and/or enjoys Toy Story. Keep it up Pixar and Randy Newman!

This possibly (and sadly) final installment in the successful TOY STORY saga from Walt Disney Pictures & PIXAR Animation Studios is by far the finest, both artistically and musically (though the first film will always rank as number one in the hearts of TOY STORY fans). The music is even more gripping this go-round, and the sadness that this may be the final movie in a popular franchise is prevalent throughout the score, especially in "So Long." The Oscar-winning son "We Belong Together" touches an emotional chord in all of us who grew up with the TOY STORY movies. And Randy Newman concludes the trilogy of TOY STORY soundtracks with a bang. Buy the movies AND the soundtracks. They make a perfect companion to each other, and to your movie collection. Bonus: there's also a Spanish rendition of You've Got A Friend In Me, to balance out the scenes where Buzz is turned into a Spaniard. Nice going, Walt Disney Pictures.

Update February 2012. Intrada has released the Toy Story 3 soundtrack on compact disc and you can now purchase it by going to the Intrada website.
*******************
Why is this Grammy award winning soundtrack only available by music download. Disney is ignoring the demands of many people by not releasing popular film soundtracks including Toy Story 3 and Up on compact disk which has much better audio quality than lossy formats such as MP3.
The "Toy Story Favorites" compact disk released in 2010 includes 2 tracks from Toy Story 3 but is exceptionally poor value for money with just six tracks in total.
Disney should release a Toy Story 3 soundtrack on compact disk.
