Don't make the mistake I did. Read these reviews, save your money.

First of all, the toy can not stand up unless you spend a few moments to balance it perfectly. Try not to breathe during this process, because the only thing that compares to trying to stand this toy up is disarming high explosives. Steady hands are a must. This might not be a fatal problem with the toy, except for the fact that you can not place the legs in a sitting position. Now don't get me wrong, the legs move, they move like wet spaghetti, they just don't move in any logical manner or direction. So you are left with a toy that can lay down on it's back or face. Very impressive Buzz!

Secondly, every part of the toy that moves can and will fall off in the first five or ten seconds of ownership. Don't worry though, you can put the pieces back together. You will get very proficient at this because you will be doing it all day, every day, for the rest of your life.

I am not yet sure how or when Buzz will leave our happy little family, but I warn you, save yourself, don't even let him enter yours.

My three year old son adores Buzz Lightyear, so I purchased this toy for his birthday last month. He loved it, but became frustrated soon after he began to play with it because it kept falling apart. Neither the backpack piece nor the wings would stay on after being snapped back into place. To help, I tried to glue the wings back on. This was not successful since the wings must be able to move. Nothing could be done for the backpack piece since the battery compartment is under where it attaches. Needless to say, if it weren't for my son's love of this toy, it would have "disappeared" a long time ago.
I cannot help but wonder if anyone else has had the same problem with this toy. If so, in my opinion, it should be recalled.
If you are considering buying this toy, I would recommend that you inspect it closely before giving it to your child to see that it stays intact.

2.0 out of 5 stars Big dissapointment for Buzz, May 14, 2003

My 3 year old son loves Toy Story 2 and Buzz Lightyear. I saw this doll and had to have it after going to the Disney store and finding that they did not have any in stock with his original uniform on. It has been quite frustrating as the toy falls apart every time you play with it. The backpack falls off if you even look at it and the wings dont stay on. I cant imagine why the wings come off anyway. And to top it off it DOES NOT say "To infinity and Beyond" which is the classic quote of Buzz. I would not recommend this toy as you cant play with it properly if it falls apart each time you pick it up.

This is a fun toy. The reason the wings and backpack come off is for them not to break off. First, the backpack comes off so you can put in new batteries. Then the wings come off so that if they are in pressure they will not break. Go out and buy this toy for your little ones!

We bought this for our 22 month old son and he absolutely loves it!! He is in love with Buzz and the movie Toy Story. The wings and the back of the toy will not stay on!!! That would be the only complaint!!

What? You're all just giving these away to your kids?! And what do they do in return? I am 27. I bought this for myself. Kids do not deserve this kind of toy. They're too spoilt these days and they won't even appreciate it! Arrgh! Get one [or two] for yourself I say.

Some of the other American reviewers here are too fussy..... I love BUZZ lightyear! I wanted one 10 years ago, I CRAVED it, but they all sold out. I finally went and bought this one today.... no kid is touching mine. They argue it doesn't stand up real well. So it doesn't. So what? Either you balance the thing against on a wall, sit him on the edge of a table using his arms for support, or simply hang him from the ceiling like a paratrooper! You can't have your cake and eat it. I mean, how would you feel? You're buzz lightyear, space ranger from the gamma quadrant, awaiting your next mission on some toystore shelf still in hypersleep... and some git starts spreading rumours about your ability to stand up by yourself!

The wings pop out, it talks, the helmet flips open, he has a laser, his head turns around, he has functional joints (even my parents played with those).....WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT PEOPLE???!!!

And another thing: the other reviewer is wrong - the thing DOES say "to infinity and beyond" in Tim Allen's voice!!!

There are other BUZZes out there, but they don't include the blue-coloured utlility (anti-gravity) belt, like this one. You can also tell them apart, as this one has a mauve trim, where the others are very deep purple colour. This model's hands also have a mauve trim, whereas the other one doesn't. I think the other one is called "room guard monitor" or something and includes a gaudy stand. This looks more original...... the only thing is, I'm going to upgrade the dim red LED with an ultra-bright blue one. :)

____________________________________________

NOTE: I also bought a smaller buzz lightyear kit that you snap together... that one isn't so good, as the wings do not fold away, it only says 3 or 4 phrases, head + fingers are fixed position, and no laser.

5.0 out of 5 stars My son LOVES this toy!!!, December 28, 2006
This review is from: Toy Story Electronic Buzz Lightyear (Toy)
My little guy (nearly 4 years old) was Buzz for Halloween, and can't get enough of anything with Buzz in it. He played with this doll for 3 days straight, even ignoring the bicycle, parking garage and electronic piano that he asked Santa for. Yes, the wings and jetpack pop off, but they are easily snapped back together, and they are like that so that the toy doesn't break permanently. My son loves shooting the laser, flying him around the room and he even takes him to bed...'nuff said :)

We got this for our 2 year old who loves Buzz Lightyear. The wings do pop off easily but as others have said it is so that they do not break. It is easily fixed by taping them on. If you do it correctly the wings will still pop out.

I read on one of the reviews that the doll does not stand on it's own, I don't think it was meant to. I think it is just a doll to play with. My son LOVES it! He even takes it to bed with him! I think it is well worth the money!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun toy...but not as durable as I would like..., August 7, 2003

= Durability:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Toy Story Electronic Buzz Lightyear (Toy)
My 2 1/2 year old son LOVES Toy Story. So, on one of our shopping escapades, I bought this for him. It's really cute, says some phrases from the movie, etc...but the wings and the backpack are constantly falling off. It's not a real problem since they snap back on, but he can't do it himself, so either my husband or myself are always being asked to fix them. Overall, if you have a Toy Story or Buzz LIghtyear fanatic like me, then this is an ok toy. If you're just buying it b/c you aren't sure what else to buy for Christmas/Birthday and you think this toy looks cute... buy something else!! For the price, Hasbro could've improved the durability.
