Toy Story Racer is a kart racing game that features 10 characters from the popular film series, including Woody, Buzz, and Hamm the pig, each with his or her own unique vehicle. There are 20 racetracks and a variety of power-ups to edge you toward infinity (though not beyond). In addition to racing through film-inspired environments, players can fulfill different quests, which make the game unfold like a storybook. Success opens up further quests and characters. The game's artificial intelligence adjusts the competitive drive of computer opponents to each player's abilities, so younger fans of the Toy Story films who are new to video games won't get frustrated by constantly eating Woody's dust.

Toy Story Racer for the Game Boy Color, at first glance, would immediately sound like a Mario Kart ripoff, but that's not the case here.

The game is an on-rails racer, meaning you must turn when the track is curved, like in Pole Position. You can choose from four Toy Story characters, which is kind of a letdown since the Playstation version has more.

The Tournament mode has about 6 (Or 7) tracks, and once you beat the mode, you unlock those courses for Quick Race mode. The tracks are actually pretty long, so if you don't have enough time to race another track in the Tournament, you can always write down the 6-digit password it gives out.

The actual tracks, while they don't have a whole lot of items, are extremely impressive. Every single track is in fake 3D on an 8-Bit system....and yet it runs smoothly. It's kind of the reason why you'd continue playing this game. The items are snails, which slow you down, stars, which you just collect, horseshoes, which make you invincible, and tires, which make you steer in a mirrored way.

Overall, it's another great movie-based title that is worth trying out.

My son loves this game. He's only 5, but he can actually win races. It doesn't let you get off the track so if he gets to the edge it bumps him back over. I bought this from a friend and they had lost the manual. If there was any way I could get a copy of the manual, that would be great. We're a little confused by some of the options.

my 4 year old is a Toy Story fan. He enjoyed the game for about 30 minutes, and after that went back to SuperMario. He use it at least once a week, but not he's number one.
Is a good game for variety, but not as a principal game.
The graphics are not as good as Spyro, or monster inc, not even supermario and the race gets a little bit boring after a while...
