5.0 out of 5 stars BEST CHOICE FOR PLAY RESEARCH, April 2, 2005
This review is from: Toy Tips: A Parent's Essential Guide to Smart Toy Choices (Paperback)
As the mom of Lili and Eva, I am most interested in developmental research on toys and the value of play. I bought this book as a "bundle" with another similar title and I have to say that I could hardly put it down.
My favorite chapter is about Smart Shopping and it made shopping on the internet for toys much more understandable. I would suggest this book for any parent who wants to learn about the values that toys play in a child's life. Also, the font of the book is easy to read and the toy quiz is fun to take.

5.0 out of 5 stars FULL OF TIPS, May 22, 2005

Grandpa Adam (Mequon, Wisconsin) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Toy Tips: A Parent's Essential Guide to Smart Toy Choices (Paperback)
I saw this author on television in Milwaukee. She mentioned her book and curious, I went to the bookstore but it was sold out. I went to three bookstores, actually! I finally got a copy and read it page by page. This book is so well-written and filled with tips on buying toys and funny little stories she call "Tales from the Toy Tips lab." As a grandparent, I was intrigued by how much information is packed in this book and how much I learned. I have 7 grandchildren ages 6 months-11 and my wife and I buy a lot of toys-however, now we will shop with a careful eye. I think that most grandparents would appreciate the up-to-date information so they buy the best toys possible. I ordered copies for each of my 4 kids so they can learn as much as I have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review from a child psychologist, June 6, 2005
This review is from: Toy Tips: A Parent's Essential Guide to Smart Toy Choices (Paperback)
I am a child psychologist, university professor and mother of 4. As busy as I am, I feel it is my job to keep up and read as many parentig books that I can. I suggest great finds to the parents of my patients and my students on a daily basis. I think this book is the best of the bunch as far as toy advice goes. I've read them all but this one leads the pack! The authors are very credible and the content is truly independent. The style is fun to read and the chapters are loaded with information to remind us how important toys are in the growth of our children's social and emotional develpment. I'm ordering one for graduate students and every new mom I meet! This is the best parenting tool I have read about toy selection EVER!

This is a valuable guide for anyone trying to wade through the confusion of the toy market. The format is very user friendly and the mini worksheets help to take the guesswork out of your toy purchases. The information is practical without being overwhelming.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great resource, December 8, 2004
This review is from: Toy Tips: A Parent's Essential Guide to Smart Toy Choices (Paperback)
This book is a perfect resource for people without children. So many of us do not know where to begin when it comes to buying toys and such for kids. I really took some time to think about what I was buying this Christmas season as apposed to years past when I would purchase whatever was most popular. The book is such a great guide and something I will continue to use, as the kids get older.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful learning tool for parents to choose the best math toys, June 30, 2005
This review is from: Toy Tips: A Parent's Essential Guide to Smart Toy Choices (Paperback)
This is a wonderful book. Filled with great information on how to educate yourself to buy toys. Until finding this book, I didn't realize that toy-buying is almost like a science. Gone are the days of going into Walmart and Toys R Us bedazzled. After reading this book, I can confidantly say it is much easier to shop for birthday presents for my kids. I especially enjoyed the chapter on technology toys and the authors' take on the subject. It is very enlightening to know the experts focus on traditional educational toys rather than all the fancy buttons and bleeps that the toy industry seems to be saturating into the consumer's mind. Great book for any home schooling parent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book to assist parents in making choices, July 24, 2005
By
Cathryn (Gaithersburg. Maryland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Toy Tips: A Parent's Essential Guide to Smart Toy Choices (Paperback)
This book was recommended to me by a librarian I met on an airplane. I am a mother of 5 children and am fed up with all the top toy lists I read in magazines. I have bought many of those toys, all too soon to have those same toys NEVER played with by my kids. This book really tells the truth on how to buy toys and leaves it up to the reader to make personal choices. I love that! There is no bias from any toy company or any of these made-up "toy tests" you see on television. Hats off to the two authors who have fabulous credentials, are both moms themselves and have a well-written book. I have been to the toytips.com website to read toy reviews and am proud to say that now I can actually feel good toy shopping and feel I have made better, more developmental toy choices for my children, Chloe, Gwen. Charley, Matthias and Lilly!
