Our kids got this toy for Christmas. It is an excllent, well-made product. I have become accustomed to assembling cheaply-made plastic contraptions that pose as real toys. It was a pleasure putting together a sturdy, well-constructed wooden castle, that my kids have loved playing with. I highly recommend it.

We have the smaller version of this castle as well. Even though this is large, it is quick and easy to take apart and put back together. We recently even brought it on a trip (road trip) and set it up in our hotel. Our 5 year old loves it.

We gave this to my 11 year old son for Christmas to play with his Knights and Horses, etc. He LOVES it! It was fairly easy to put together. The peg that holds the flag in did break. Also, it is not as easy to fold up as it looks in the advertisement. I suggest that you have a spot that you can set it up and leave it up. Other than that, in the short time we have had it, it has been a great toy.

This castle is a great find for parents seeking alternatives to plastic. However, while it does have a good deal of actual wood, much of the castle is made from pressboard or a similar engineered wood product. Which means that when push comes to play, it's fancy, thick paper. It's durable enough and solid enough that my close to 40 lbs kids can stand on it...one at a time...but the walls and edges in particular have already started to show some wear and breakage, and it's only been 4 months. The moving parts...bridges and such...have also failed to some degree. Our kids are not overly rough with their toys, and in particular this one, so seeing it start to wear out so fast was a bit disappointing.
Still, seeing it wear out means they're playing with it, which is more than can be said for many, many plastic toys that get sent to Goodwill every few months. If this lasts them 2 years, I'll be happy. |
