TOYA!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Toya (Audio CD)
The first time I heard her song "I Do" I thought it was a nice beat. but then it started to grow on me and eventually i bought her album. Not only is she fine, but the girl can sing! Her song "I Do" needs to be number one and it's sad that it's taken this long for someone of her talent to be just noticed...Here's a breakdown of her songs:1. No Matta What (Party All Night) - Great R&B song for a night out at the club. Strong vocals by Toya. I can picture this being the second single. 2. How Can I Be Down - Another tyte track with a good beat, describing the typical ... 3. I Do!! - By far the best song the album. Definitely number one material. Great beat, easily can see the attitude witnessed in Toya's vocals. 4. The Truth - a track about how her man should tell the truth the next time around cuz this time it's too late. lilting music helps the ordinary lyrics. 5. Think - This song didn't impress me too much. i'd say a filler. 6. Don't Make Me - i really like this song, especially the part where she says "don't make me accidentally key your jeep" that was funny. great song about warning her ... the revenge she might take on his cheating ways if he doesn't change. 7. Moving On - beautiful ballad about dealing with the loss of somebody. lovely song. 8. What Else Can I Do - a bittersweet r&b song about what else one can do after putting up with their mates lying, cheating ways but leave. 9. Untouchables feat. Penelope - Another filler. Pretty average track. 10. Book of Love - a song about changing the rules of love. Nice lyrics. 11. What's A Girl To Do - Great track, great beat. about a girl caught between a guy who treats her nice and a... isn't it obvious?? 12. I Messed Up - All i gotta say is this track is messed up. 13. Bounce - Cute track about an annoying... "Bug a boo" sound familiar? 14. I Do Pt. 2 - Really good remix, but I wish they would have put the video version of "I Do" on the cd also. Overall, one of the best R&B/Hip-Hop albums I've heard in a long time. What are you waiting for?? GO BUY IT RITE NOW AND SUPPORT THE TALENTED, BEAUTIFUL TOYA!

Very good,

A very good debut of Toya. Her songs like "I do" or "No matta what" are very catchy and groovy. "The truth" features beats of LL Cool J's "Something like a phenomenon". This album has deserved much more attention because it's pretty good: good quality songs, beats and a good voice

I Do!! Think This CD Is Awesome!!,
By Sam Newcomer (Zionsville, IN USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Toya (Audio CD)
Everytime I went to Best Buy to look for a CD I looked at Toya but didn't think it would be a good buy. Boy, was I wrong! This is the best CD I currently have in my collection and it was worth every penny! Her style of music and midwest voice totally fit together perfectly in every song. I Do!! her first single is an awesome song, but dont think she is a one hit wonder. No Matta What (Party all Night) is begining to pull in listeners, and with her unique lyrics, and upbeat tempos, she could have numerous hits. Out of 15 songs 4 have featured artists and what a good choice. First of all, Penelope rocks in Untouchables! Loon is good in Book of Love, too. The other artists are T.I., a rapper I haven't heard about until now, in Fiasco, and Murphy Lee of the St. Lunatics, in I Do Part 2. My favortie songs are I Do!!, Don't Make Me, Moving On (the only ballad on the CD, but worth listening to), Untouchables, Book of Love, and I Do Part 2. Don't think that I don't like the other songs. They rock!! It's not another teen pop singer who doesn't write her songs. She helped write over half of the songs! In the inside cover there is also a dictionary with terms in her songs. Believe me, if that wasn't there I'd be puzzled beyond your imaginations. In I Do!! it says "He was a six foot stallion said a storybook thug" which means basicly a playa whose got the moves! How original is that?! She totally rocks! So if you want a kickin' CD thats going to make you listen to it over and over again, Toya is your #1 pick!

It's growing on me.,
By Rebecca (Massachusetts, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Toya (Audio CD)
My friend had gotten this CD as a present recently. She didn't like it all that much so she gave it to me, thinking that I'd like it since I enjoy this kind of music. Well, at first I thought the music was weird. But after a second listen to the album, it started to grow on me. I had first heard about Toya on the radio with her debut single, "I Do!!". I didn't really think it was anything special. But the next few times I heard it, I actually started liking it. It's got a cool, catchy vibe and R&B feel to it that's great for dance clubs, and probably a good song for lots of interesting remixes. Other favorite tracks of mine on TOYA are: "No Matta What (Party All Night)", "How Can I Be Down", "The Truth", "Moving On", "What Else Can I Do", "Untouchables", "Book Of Love", and "Bounce". 15 tracks in all. This is a great debut album that really starts to grow on you quickly. It's different from most female singers' debuts. Toya kinda reminds me of Tamia, who also has that R&B/Pop-dance club feel to her music. If you are into artists like Jennifer Lopez, Tamia, Blu Cantrell, Christina Millian, etc., than I strongly recommend TOYA by Toya!

Magnificent Midwest,
By A Customer
This review is from: Toya (Audio CD)
The Midwest is coming strong once again with sexy songstress Toya, with her debut self-titled album. Not only does she have a voice like a bell, she also has beauty, Aphrodite, the godess of love, would envy. The Midwest is showing great potential in the Hip Hop/R&B/Pop world. This "Rhythm Queen" is expected to drop another follow up to her Sonic Smash Hit "I Do" with a remix dubbed "I Do pt. 2". It's a mix with St. Lunatic, Murphy Lee. It changes the point of view from the player to the lady. We expect to hear a lot more of Toya's powerful voice before the year is over. Go out and get the album. In Stores 8/7/01. Toya also has a special feature on her album. "Toya's Dictionary" explains the new "Hip Pop" mainstream language used in her album and by people everyday.

Kick A**,
By Brandon Stevens (Kansas USA) - See all my reviews

This album is Kick A**. I was shopping for cds one day and came across this one and I liked the song "I Do" so I decided to give it a try. I love the whole album. Their are no bad songs whatso ever and I hope she comes out with a new album soon. She mixes a lot of beats together in one album, some of the songs sound like Destiny's Child's The Writings On The Wall songs. They are both good albums, but this one is the best. Check it out, you won't be disappointed!

Make Way For Miss Toya!,
By "zooropaflygirl" (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Toya (Audio CD)
This album was a huge hit for me in the fall of 2001. It's a very good debut from an obviously young, cute, hip, and talented rising star Toya. (Full name LaToya Rodriguez, Toya's a perfect one-name for a star:-)) She's from St. Louis, so she has a lot of association with Nelly and The St. Lunatics. She makes me proud to be from the Midwest considering I'm a fellow Midwest girl. Her music has that distinct St. Louis sound, with those beats and xylophones that can be heard in the background. But unlike the St. Lunatics, Toya doesn't rap, she sings, and very well I might add, not to mention other talents like co-writing her songs. Her voice range reminds me of my own, only better! She really did a great vocal performance on "Untouchables", at first I thought it was someone else singing. I would describe her style as "Bubblegum R&B",(like 3LW, Christina Aguilera, Pink, and Blaque) in which the songs are cute, catchy, and clean singing about obvious things. (Not that I mean it in a bad way.) I love all the songs- they're so good and catchy and all sound like top 40 material, easy to sing along to. I can relate to the lyrics in every song, and I bet any girl can. "I Do!!" has been out too long, I say it's about time to release another single. How about "Don't Make Me", or "The Book Of Love", or "What's A Girl To Do"... so many choices! Most of the album is fast, but there's also a nice ballad "Moving On". All the songs are so good and there's so much to say about them and make a list, but I will make a comment on a few of the songs. "No Matta What (Party All Night)" has got to be the most bizzare-sounding but good pop song I've ever heard. It's a mixture of almost every type of popular music you can think of. R&B, dance, rock, hip-hop, you name it! I wish Toya would become more noticable like Alicia Keys, she certainly deserves to. She has the talent, and the good music. She needs to have more songs released, because any song on the album is eligible to be hit material. Guest appearances include newcomers female rapper Penelope, Loon, E.I., and Murphy Lee from the St. Lunatics.

Awesome Debut!!,
This review is from: Toya (Audio CD)
I am puzzled as to why Toya's album isn't as successful as it should be. This album is one of the best r&b albums this year, right behind Aaliyah and Alicia Keyes's album. This album features strong songwriting, innovative productions and fine singing. I must admit I had to listen to this album three times before I got into it, but I got it now and I love it. Here's a breakdown:§ No Matter What (Party All Night Long) is an awesome record. It's a mixture of r&b, pop, dance and rock. On this song, Toya sings about party with her girls no matter what happens. § How Can I Be Down is slamming. How many times have you been attracted to guy who was too fine and too fly for words? That's what the song is about. § I Do is her hit single but in my opinion the weakest song on the album. I Do pt.2 is much better. § The Truth is a record that reminds me a little of the 70's. However, it's very today's. § Think has an 80's vibe to it and it kind of reminds me of A. Franklin's song Think. § Don't Make Me mixes Latin grooves with an r&b beat. She really sings on this track.

Now, I know I'm the only one, but....,
This review is from: Toya (Audio CD)
Does any body think that on Toya's album song #11(What's a Girl To Do?) sounds exactly like Craig David's (2 Steps Back) on his Slicker Than Average cd in 2002? I just thought the beats sounded faintly similar to one another. Anyways, her cd is great. I like 11 out of the 15 songs. I really wish she had made I Do Pt. 2 a single. It would've been good to hear on the radio. I wonder why she fell off and disappeared? I didn't really care to much for the very first song on the cd, which became her second single, but overall the cd wasn't that bad for her to just vanish like that. My FAVS are: The Truth, Don't Make Me, I Messed Up, Moving On, Book Of Love, W.A.G.T.D., and of course the last song.

I Do!!,
By Smilez (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Toya (Audio CD)
St. Louis has done it again. My homegirl Toya blends R&B, soul, pop, and techno into one powerhouse album named after her. TOYA has its thuggish, sweet, and club moments. "No Matta What (Party All Night)" combines techno and R&B into a fun sing-songy kinda way. Toya's first single, the energetic "I Do!!" got major buzz on the radio and the video got picked BUZZWORTHY by MTV. Her CD has sweet songs such as the heartbreaking "Moving On" and "What Else Can I Do". On "Moving On", Toya sings to her missing lover "..." But don't expect Toya to let her man walk all over her. On "Don't Make Me", Toya pulls her man to the side and tells him to come clean with her. And don't forget the old-schoolish jam "Think". Toya's CD is worth buying and if you don't have it, what you waitin' for? GET IT!!! :p
