5.0 out of 5 stars Nifty little "wax play handbook", April 14, 2004
By
Todd Hawley (San Francisco CA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Toybag Guide to Hot Wax and Temperature Play (Paperback)
Greenery Press has come out with a new series of tiny books called "toybag guides" that I recently acquired. They are a sort of "small class in a book" about a specific topic. This one is about wax play and is written by an author with years of experience in this. And one thing I immediately gleaned from it was how to remove wax from a carpet (some candle wax got spilled there in a definitely non kinky moment) amusingly enough. This "mini book" has seven chapters, including an "intro" to this activity, setting up a wax play scene, dealing with a partner with excessive hair, also a rudimentary device to heat and melt the wax you plan to use in a scene ("the vat of hell"), and some information about wax type and color (it turns out different colored candles do not burn hotter than white ones do, at least according to the author).

While this may not be "the definitive guide to wax play (if there even is one)," this "toybag guide" offers some good general information in a quick and easy to read format.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good information about hot wax, December 3, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Toybag Guide to Hot Wax and Temperature Play (Paperback)
This gave some great information about hot wax that I never would have thought of, such as that birthday candles are about the only wrong types of candles to use, because their wax gets so hot it will burn you. I also learned that the lowest temperature candles are those religious candles that come in cylindrical containers, because they're a mix of paraffin wax and mineral oil. Low temperature is good because it means you can drip a lot more wax on someone.

This is a tiny book. It has less than a hundred pages, and the pages are very small. About twenty pages are dedicated to this thing called a "Vat out of Hell," which I'm sure no one will end up actually making because it requires you to buy a bunch of cheap supplies and then splice all of these electrical cords together. Still it was interesting and the pages were short.

Everyone who has dripped wax or who wants to drip wax on their friends should buy this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for beginners, December 4, 2008

This review is from: The Toybag Guide to Hot Wax and Temperature Play (Paperback)
Book is good for Hot Wax Play 101, will give you enough information to experiment without causing severe injuries. It does well as a gift to newbies from long time players as an introduction. The long chapter about "Vat of Hell" was unneeded for this book. I know the author so realize his intent was positive.
