This is a really great CD that harkens back to the fun reggae heydey of such early 80s bands as Third World, Steel Pulse and Black Uhuru. Even with song titles like "Smoke Two Joints", "Monster Hash" and "What's So Bad About A Nipple?", this is not a novelty record. Strong songwriting and unexpected smiles are to be found on this disc.

Love this band. Back in my rebellious youth (1980's) these guys were big in the local Hawaiian music scene. Smoke two joints was probably the best known, but Listen To The Radio is in my opinion the best song on the whole disc.

This is one of the freshest, funniest, easiest-to-listen-to albums I own. As another reviewer pointed out -- everyone I play it for wants a copy. And it's melodically interesting enough to listen to even when I'm not "listening".

From "Smoke two joints" to "What's so bad about a nipple," the variety of sounds and subjects has made this one of my favorite albums. Everyone who hears it loves it. Contains adult themes though...

I am rating this only a 3 for two reasons:

1. I had the vinyl and still have a tape with two songs (Two Joints, Listen to the radio) on it recorded from that original record album. This cd I thought would be an exact replica, since it was $40.00+ and appears to have the original album art without noting on the front or in product description, that the contents were re-done in 1997. So this was disappointing especially since at 3-4X the price of a remake, I was excited that I (thought I) was getting what I paid for, a digitally remastered album from the 80's.

So the content is different - Listen to the Radio, in particular, is slow and has commentary add-ins, like when someone is redo-ing their old favorite - but I wanted the real original. This version sounds like someone toked for 20 years and then resang the song, the singer being older and slower. This is an anxious song, but in slo-mo, it's not true to its original story - which was a young guy bitching that the girl he likes prefers listening to the radio than going out with him or doing anything else. There is ANGST in the lyrics, but the newer recording is like someone is laying back in a recliner lighting up, recounting with amusement.

But I appreciate the music outside of this expectation and the cost. Don't I wish I still had that vinyl!

2. How many times can I hear the same licks on one album? Dude, ship this with des fume de weed, if you're going to do this type of packaging. Smoke Two Joints in 3 languages is a nice idea, but makes me think the boyes were out of fresher ideas.
