5.0 out of 5 stars Great toy to put together as a team with a sibling or parent.
My son is 7 and really enjoyed putting this together with his dad. It was easy enough to do on his own too. He's dropped it or it's walked off of a table a couple of times and it didn't break so he feels it's durable. Once put together, the duck doesn't do much of anything but walk around. My son loves sharing it with friends and they think it's pretty cool so it's a...

3.0 out of 5 stars Advice if it doesn't work the first time
Some complaints about this product include that it rotates fine until you put it down, then it freezes up. If this happens, try to reverse the wires (instead of red-to-red and black-to-black, connect red-to-black and black-to-red) so the motor turns in the opposite direction. That seemed to work for us.

He's had it for about a month now and still likes the robot duck alot!

I bought this robot kit for my son who is 5 and totally into the Robot scene. The kit was easy and fun for him to screw together. I was intrigued by the statement of walks like a duck, so couldn't wait to see how this thing actually propelled itself. It actually is kinda cool...No he wants me to build him Optimus Prime!!!!

Cute beginning robot. Quick to build. Do not let it walk on carpet, though. When it gets stuck it will strip the gear, but gear is easily
replaceable. Would go better if back stabilizer rod had a little wheel
on it, then it would not get stuck in carpet.

My 7 y/o son put this together with minimal verbal help from his aunt. It took him less than one hour. It was a good experience for him to do, but he doesn't love to play with it now. It IS very durable, because my 2 y/o son loves to play with it now that it's together! He has thrown it on the floor numerous times and it's still going! Must be on a hard surface to walk. Great toy!

Our son has just had his 6th birthday and he is all about robots. We spent a long time looking at other reviews. This was a good find. He sat down with his dad and made the robot and then set up an obstacle course and a slope for the duck to come down. They had a great time and this was a perfect starting point for our son, who would like to be an inventor when he grows up!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good family project, September 1, 2009

I bought this several months ago and helped four kids (ages 11, 9, 6, and 3) put it together. There was something that each of them could do and when it was finished they were all happy to have participated.

The toy walks faster than I expected (which makes it more fun). The kids have taken pretty good care of it but it has been dropped a few times and it still works just fine. It has been used many times for "show-and-tell" and gets a lot of attention because it is an uncommon toy.

I had no problems with shipping, ordering, etc.

Same as the other "1" ratings. Worked for 1 day, now the motor/gear can't overcome the opposing force of the ground. I guess my 5 year old can turn it into flying/kicking duck :-/

The robot duck takes a bit of time to construct, but that's not a bad thing because older kids can find it challenging too. I ordered a large number of robot ducks, and although fun to use, they do not consistently work well. Approximately 25% of the ducks ordered did not walk well when put together.

My son and I built this as our 4th robot project. Once we had it built, I turned it on and it the legs (motor) couldn't drag the heavy body around. I picked it up and the legs were turning fine. I adjusted the angle of the legs and put in new batteries, and still no luck. I had to replace it with a different manufacturers robot.

Note: I should mention that this is the 2nd robot from this manufacturer that didn't work as advertised. They have a "line tracing robot", a little Yellow one, that didn't work either. So beware!
