I ordered two of these, thought they were going to be exactly what I've been looking for. My son has been begging for his own tape measure, and I don't trust the regular sharp metal ones. I ordered two hoping I would get two different animals, instead I was sent identical dinosaurs. Open the first, and go to see how easily the tape pulls out, and the little plastic end IMMEDIATELY came off, causing the tape to roll back up into the dispenser with no hope of being able to retrieve it. I'm just glad I wanted to test it before giving it as a Christmas present. I decided to return both, since I couldn't trust the quality, and I needed something reliable. Then I realized Christmas was getting too close to try and find something else, so I tried the second one. EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED! I don't know if I just happened to get 2 defective dinos, but I was extremely disapointed with the quality. And left to try to find a decent toy tape measure that isn't bundled with an 85 piece tool set.

Got this for my 2 1/2 very rough and tumble son. He loves to measure things and I too was afraid he was going to cut himself or drop the heavy one on a toe. So I got this and my son wanted it with him all the time, even for naps. I had to limit the use since the cat is very fond of chasing it too. However after much use and abuse it did give when my son decided to wedge the dinosaur into something and pull the tape end with all his might. The tape just pulled out. Not the products fault, my son is just rough. Over all for the price it is a great toy!

My daughter carefully opened one of the two tape measures I bought for her (hoping for two different designs but got two identical dinos) and it broke within a minute of VERY careful use. (The tip popped off the the ruler coiled, unreachable, into the dino's mouth) The second lasted a little longer--a few minutes-- before the tape ruler popped out of the dino. These are junk.
