I bought this item to add a little something to my son's bedroom. The paint looks cool when it is dark, it does look like stars in the sky, however, the glow does not last long and you have to continually turn on the lights to recharge. When painting, the projection light does not stay strong and burnt out rather quickly. You have to move fast, in a dark room trying to touch little corresponding cylinders to the correct projection on to the 8ft ceiling (kills your neck) before the light and the paint stop glowing. When light is on,the spots are not real noticible, you really have to look for them, which is good. I did this on a dark ceiling (navy) and I still need to do more, but since the light burnt out I am just randomly placing the dots, it still looks cool and my 10yr son is pleased. so in the end that is all that matters!

Great for random stars, but don't be picky about correct constellations,

Overall, I'm happy I got this product, but only because I cdn't care less whether the constellations are correct. The star map that is provided is next to useless. Only a few of the constellations were visible on the ceiling, and I had to play games with it to even get those. I ended up just putting up random stars everywhere. There is more than enough paint to do an average-sized bedroom.
A black light is essential when working in order to see what you've done. As stated in other reviews, the paint doesn't hold a charge well, so if you just work in the dark, you won't be able to see the stars you've painted. Set the bottle of paint next to the black light while you're working, and it will help make it more visible when you use it. Also, the stars don't hold a charge all that long (maybe 20 minutes of good visibility after the lights are out). If you want to see them for longer or if you like to be able to see them when you wake up in the middle of the night, you'll need a black light for the room. Oh, and be prepared for the fact that they glow slightly green. I think that's unavoidable with glow-in-the-dark paint.

It does what it claims. Can't vouch for the included paint, as I used a more expensive glow-in-the-dark paint. Light beams from device onto ceiling are very faint and difficult to see when painting.
