Original review:
This ball is about the size and weight of a grapefruit, with a clear, tough outer "skin" filled with iridescent glitter and smaller, pale-colored orbs swirling about in clear fluid.
The balls inside are the "water jelly marbles" or something like them, in shades of pink, purple, blue, and green.
They settle when the ball is at rest, then shimmer and move about when you shake or bounce the ball. It's sort of like an abstract snow globe!
The ball bounces well and seems pretty sturdy, though I imagine that it could rupture if thrown with force against a very hard surface.
This is a fun toy for infants and toddlers who can manage the weight, and for older children and adults, too.
When I had it on my desk briefly, every adult who passed by wanted to play with it.
It is also a hit with several young friends of mine with autistic spectrum disorders - they really seem to be fascinated with the swirling motion of the orbs and glitter and seem to find it soothing.
Try shining a flashlight through the ball in a darkened room - neat!
I think I'll pick up a few more to have on-hand for gifts for girls' birthday parties - it is nice to have an active, open-ended toy with a bit of science to it that is also pretty and appealing to the Barbie doll and Beiber sets.

Update - 7/2013:
I still have a couple of these balls that I purchased when I wrote that original 5 star review, and they're still sparkly and lovely. I just ordered another for a gift and was shocked and disappointed at the change in quality.
The plastic is yellowed and dull, the fluid inside appears cloudy, and the seams on the ball are rough and uneven. It is also slightly smaller and a good but lighter than my other balls. HUGE drop in quality! This thing is so cloudy looking that you can barely see the sparkly filler. Yuck!
I can no longer recommend this product!

i bought this ball for my autistic nephew. It is sometimes hard to find things he will like. I bought this for him and am happy because he does like it. It's a large ball so he can't fit it in his mouth. It's not too heavy for a 8 year old boy and it is not too light either. He can hold it in his hand though. When you shake or turn it the inside moves and swirls about. It's a bit captivating. It's fun to play with.

Someone else pointed out that it does not look like the picture and that is true. At first that did annoy me. It's much dark and not bright and colorful. It is still an interestng ball though becuase of the swirlinig inside of it. My nephew really likes it so that what really makes me happy. I'm very happy with this particular purchase.

I thought I would give this ball a shot despite the horrible reviews. It wasn't expensive and I figured that perhaps I would get lucky and get a good one in the batch. Ordered on Sunday, arrived today 01/15/2014 and.... WRONG. The plastic, as other people have mentioned, is extremely murky and yellowed that you cannot at all see the colors on the inside at all!

The picture is very deceptive.

Item looks NOTHING like photo. The ball is not colorful or interesting to look at. At first I thought the item was dirty and tried to wash it as it looks to be covered by a film. No, it's the style. Waste of money.
