My 2-yr old son loves backhoes, and he loves this toy. For my part, it is flimsier than I expected. The body is made out of plastic and is fairly lightweight. Just taking it out of the package, I managed to separate the arms that support the shovel, and had to fit them back together. I was expecting something heavier and sturdier, more like a Tonka toy. Not matching my preconception doesn't make it a bad toy, but I do keep an eye on my son while he's playing with it, just in case.

If you want a toy that makes loud noises, this is the toy for you! If you want this toy to actually move and perform the tasks on the controller, forget it. I bought this toy for my 4 year old son. He loves the noise (very loud! ugh), but we can't get it to move (roll across the floor). It doesn't work on either hardwood floors, or on carpet. From the other reviews that I have read (after I bought), NOBODY can get this thing to roll on a floor (you'd think the maker would've tested it before marketing). Oh well, lesson learned. Hope this helps you in your decision.

Bought it for my pre-2year old at Easter and he loves it. It was well packed in the box, had to get a screwdriver to remove it. Once removed it works as expected, goes forward/backward about 4 feet and makes lots of noise. There is a switch which turns off some but not all the sounds. I knew it was plastic when I bought it so I wasn't expecting the same level of durability as the larger metal versions of construction toys but its been plenty durable for us. My son drags it around the house and occasionally drops it. No problems so far. We are looking at buying more pieces in the set.
