This was listed in a romance magazine as "romantic suspense" which I find erroneous. I would call it a murder mystery with some suspense. There was only a small amount of romance in this book. After serving a decade in the toughest prison in the country for a murder he didn't commit, Clint Austin is on parole and back home to clear his name. He's lost everything - his freedom, his family, and most importantly, his sense of self when former crush Emily Wallace found him with the near lifeless body of her best friend and led the lynch mob that sent him to prison. But the town is not wiling to let bygones be bygones, and Emily is back in town to see that he violates his parole so that he can be sent back to Holman. Emily hates that she's still attracted to Clint, and has never really moved on from that violent night that destroyed her school girl crush and the person she once was. When she starts watching him and following him, she soon learns that he might actually have been set up and further investigation puts them both at danger since the real culprit wants to keep the secret of that night from coming to light.

This was my first time reading a book by this author and I will be reading anything else she writes. Taking material that has been used a dozen times, she manages to create a fresh and emotional story with a surprise ending. The chemistry between Clint and Emily sizzles off the pages; the anguish of Clint and the losses he suffered make him more than your typical misunderstood bad boy.

I read a piece of this book in Cosmo and I decided to order it. I have so much going on I shouldnt even be reading but I finished it in three days. This book is so intense, and I could not put it down. When you are reading it, it feels as if you are there with them. You will not regret reading this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ten Years Too Late, But Finally... Justice!, August 27, 2007

Emily and Clint aren't perfect, they're delightfully human and it's easy to see yourself in this nail-biting suspense novel. Debra Webb has created a complex plot with complex characters that is amazingly entertaining and easy to read and follow--and I did. In one sitting!

4.0 out of 5 stars The truth will come out, December 10, 2007
This review is from: Traceless (Mass Market Paperback)
Clint Austin was covicted and sentenced to twenty yrs for the murder of Heather Baker. He was 19 at the time and now after ten yrs he is let out on parole. Returning home he is determined to find out who killed Heather and prove his innocence. The return home turns out to be almost as horrible as prison. His house is burned with him in it, he is attacked, he is run off the road in his car, and the one girl he has ever cared for still believes he killed her best friend.

Emily is still fragile, even after ten yrs. She has a nervous breakdown shortly after the trial. Even now she sees Clint holding Heather who is bleeding to death. Determined to send him back to prison, she returns home when she hears of his release.

The only problem is that now that he is back and asking questions that seemed to be overlooked ten yrs ago, unexpected things are happening. Things that throw a shadow of doubt on what has seemed so clear to Emily for all these years. Suddenly, people are dying and bringing more questions than answers to the fore. Clint will take whatever the killer dishes out until he has his answer, Emily needs answers too, because if Clint didn't kill her friend, who did?

Very crisp with a great plot. Webb knows how to lead us on in our quest for answers, right along with the main characters. Good read.

This was listed in a romance magazine as "romantic suspense" which I find erroneous. I would call it a murder mystery with some suspense. There was only a small amount of romance in this book. I don't care for murder mysteries, so my rating is low. Fans of murder mysteries might enjoy it. I did not. For about the first two-thirds of the book, I was angry and frustrated with the plot and characters. Too many people in a small town were cowards and would not stand up against meanness and cruelty. I was depressed and sad at what Clint (who was innocent) went through during his 10 years in jail. A number of people knew he was innocent but participated in sending him to jail. Not one person who knew the truth was honorable and willing to tell the truth. It makes one lose faith in humanity. I also did not like Emily, the female protagonist. She was a wimp. She refused to face logic. She was a witness, but due to her emotional instability was unable to fairly communicate what she saw. She was constantly emotionally unstable, even as new evidence arose, she would not want to think about it. I don't enjoy reading about people like her. By the end of the book, the murders and blackmailing are solved and there is a happy ending for the couple. But, the small positives at the end were not enough to make reading the rest of the book worthwhile.

Sexual language: mild. Number of sex scenes: about six. Setting: current day Pine bluff, Alabama. Copyright: 2007. Genre: murder mystery suspense (with a touch of romance).

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous suspense!, May 18, 2008
This review is from: Traceless (Mass Market Paperback)
Debra Webb knows how to write romantic suspense! This story gripped me from the beginning and wouldn't let go. Clint and Emily are fascinating and heart-breaking. You just don't know how Webb is going to pull this one off -- Clint went to prison for 10 years for murdering a high school cheerleader. The sole witness: Emily. How these two solve the crime, deal with hatred and bitterness in a small Alabama town, and work out their unresolved issues with each other adds up to one great ride! If you like romantic suspense, this is an author to savor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great romance novel, October 23, 2007
This review is from: Traceless (Mass Market Paperback)
I seen this book advertised in a magazine, and just by the little bit that the magazine put, I was drawn to this book. Since I started reading the first page I could not put it down. I loved it!! It was like being in the role of Emily Wallace. Debra Webb is very descriptive, it's like being in the characters shoes. There are no words to describe how vivid it feels to read this book. Every detail and feeling is described to perfection. That Clint Austin was described handsome and rugged, but also kind and sweet. I loved it!! I wish they could do a movie on this! This would actually be a perfect Lifetime movie or Oxygen. Highly recommended!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not romantic. Not a good mystery, either, December 2, 2011
By
This review is from: Traceless (Mass Market Paperback)
I found this at my public library. I started reading it and didn't really like any of the characters. Clint was wrongly accused of murder, and found guilty because even though everyone in law enforcement in the town knew he was innocent none of them wanted to say so. Emily testified against him and still thinks he's guilty, even as more and more evidence to prove his innocence comes to light. I don't see them as a happy-ever-after couple. I skipped to the end to see how it ended and skimmed back through the book to see why it all happened - the secrets the townspeople were hiding were ugly and unsettling. It just wasn't my kind of book.

5.0 out of 5 stars exciting romance suspense, June 21, 2010
This review is from: Traceless (Mass Market Paperback)
Heroine, who found her BFF murdered with her high-school crush kneeling next to her, comes back to hometown 10 yrs after finding out that hero is out on parole & is back in their hometown. Both realize that they're still very much attracted to each other even though both spent the last 10 yrs blaming each other for what happened. In the meantime, they are busy with trying to uncover secrets about the murder that townspeople appear to be hiding.

Webb's book was fast-paced & engaging. It was emotionally intense & the characters leapt out of the page. Sexual chemistry was sizzling & love scenes were good.

Highly recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent, February 13, 2010
This review is from: Traceless (Mass Market Paperback)
This was my first book by this author and while I thought it was a decent read, it wasn't great.

Mainly, the character of Emily was totally unlikeable which made it hard to care much about her or to even keep track of what she was doing and why. The rest of the cast was so cartoonish that it almost became a joke.

While the culprit's identity was pretty obvious, there were enough red herrings to keep you guessing if you were right until the very end.

Looking forward to more by this author.
