Editorial Reviews

Review

If you like authors such as Gillian Flynn or Rachel Abbott then this is definitely a novel for you. This is a super fast paced thriller that keeps you guessing right to the end.
Although it is nominally a missing persons book it actually turns more into a psychological thriller as the investigators try to unravel what really happened.
The ending was definitely a surprise, you will never guess it. It marks the book out from others in the genre. ~ John Forrester, The Crime Scene

I loved this book. If I had an award to hand out for "best hook in a novel," Clancy would win the gold medal. The minute I started reading my eyeballs nearly popped out of my head. Traceless keeps the action moving along at a nice pace and crosses the finish line with the momentum of an Olympic sprinter. - Belinda, Every Free Chance Book Reviews

This is a great pick for any readers who enjoy crime novels or CSI. The author does an excellent job with the characters. ~ Maria Miller

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to get to the 'nitty-gritty' of why people do what they do. ~ Maureen Reil

There are so many twists and turns in this book it is hard to put the book down... I wasn't able to and had to read the whole thing in one day. Amazing writing; yet another hit from Joanne Clancy! ~ Ashley Kennedy

This was a fast-paced crime thriller. It allowed the reader to try to solve the crime and work alongside the investigative team. I definitely see a sequel in the future. ~ Sue Leonhardt

I am huge fan of mystery/thrillers, but I can only think of one other book/series that is more like true crime. I honestly didn't think I would enjoy them much, since I am more of a character driven person over plot. But Traceless was really good.

It's hard to really talk about the book without spoilers. So, bear with me.

The story follows the disappearance and presumed murdered, Adam Stoltz. Driving with his girlfriend, Darcey - she survives the attack and is the sole witness to the crime. We follow the investigation, as it unfolds over the course of a year. But it isn't in just her POV. We have several different POVs; each person brings a unique perspective to the story. It was a very interesting way to tell the story.

You can tell that crime novels are Joanne's strong suit. There was many different suspicions on what happened that night. Different people, including the detectives and reporters, all had their own theories. Many I would have never came up with. What is boils down to - you really don't know much about Adam and Darcey, until the story unfolds. And even then, there are many questions on what REALLY happened.

The ending was shocking. Sure, I had my suspicions on what was going on, but I was seriously thrown for a loop there.

My Peeve -

The only thing that really bothered me was the POV switch by paragraph. You aren't in the head of any of the characters, more like a fly on the wall bouncing from room to room watching everything unfold. It was unique, and worked for the story - just not something that I am use to. And it took me while to get in the groove.

Overall

I really enjoyed it. Traceless is a fascinating true crime novel that will appeal to those who love mystery and suspense.

I like Joanne Clancy's crime novels...They are always intriguing, murder/mysteries from different view points from all the characters all the time...If you like CSI shows you should enjoy this book too...It had many shocking twists and turns especially at the ending which I definitely did not see coming...Quick page turner that I couldn't put down...

They are traveling around the world and end up in Wicklow Mountain....Adam Stoltz gets out to help a stranger and girlfriend Darcy Ackerman gets attacked...Adam goes missing with out a trace...No hard evidence...Police Investigator D.S. George Ellis starts pressuring Darcy along with the news reporters..She is not acting like a weeping, brokenhearted girlfriend concerned over her missing boyfriend....In fact, she is as cold as ice....

Where is Adam...

I will always look forward to this author's next book...

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The description of this book made it sound like it was going to be an amazing psychological thriller, the girlfriend narrowly escapes with her life and then becomes obsessed with finding the murderer of her boyfriend. I kept waiting for the girlfriend to become the driving force of this book, but it never happened.

The book was able to grab my attention almost immediately, but shortly after the arrival of the police and media the story fell flat and never got back up. So many things are added into this book that either do nothing to move the story along (such as an entire chapter where the mother and daughter are kidnapped, the kidnapper goes off to think about what to do with them, they escape, go to the police, and exit the story completely), or have the potential to make the story but then are just abandoned (such as when the reporter asked herself the question somewhat along the lines of "I spent only a few minutes hiding in the brush and I'm covered in sticks and mud, Darcy spent hours hiding here, why wasn't she covered in sticks and mud too?")

This book wasn't great but it was definitely worth the time spent reading. For me, the biggest problem was the timeline of the book. Clancy spent chapters going over a short span of time, then would leap over weeks or months with little or no explanation.
The end (when it finally came) seemed a bit formulaic. Lots of groundwork laid in the first 3/4 of the book for a lackluster finale.

I received a free ebook copy in return for an honest review.

Traceless will have you on the edge of your seat from the very beginning. You won’t be able to put this book down! It keeps you guessing to the end. From page one I was hooked and wanted to know what happened. There were several times I thought I had it all figured out but I was sooo wrong...

Adam Stoltz and his girlfriend Darcey Ackerman are on an evening drive through the Wicklow Mountains when somebody pulls them over claiming there might be something wrong with their campervan. While Darcey has a bad feeling, Adam trusts the stranger. Little do Adam and Darcey know that this night will change everything for them. Being trustful, Adam gets out making sure everything is alright while Darcey waits inside. But then Adam vanishes and the stranger attacks Darcey. Somehow, Darcey is able to escape...

A major police investigation, led by D.S.George Ellis, starts. However, Adam remains missing without a trace. Darcey, being the last person to have seen Adam alive, has to face many questions. Soon everybody starts doubting Darcey’s description of the events and the victim turns into a suspect. Questions are raised – What happened in the mountains? How could Darcey escape? Is she telling the truth? Where is Adam? Was Adam murdered?
You will start questioning everybody and everything while reading this book!

I really enjoyed reading this book. It is a fast paced pageturner that I read in one session.
However, there are many jumps in point of view that are a little disturbing and I needed some time to get used to that. In addition, I would have liked to learn a little bit more about the characters because they seem a little „flat“. Nevertheless, I can recommend reading this book.
