This review is from: Traces: Memoirs of an Indonesian Wartime Boyhood (Paperback)
Pieter Roeloffs is very optimistic and compassionate in recounting one of the worst atrocities that could have happened to victims of World War II. The ways he went through his hard times are encouraging and refreshing because he focuses more on how much he could make of the situations rather that the terrible things that happened to him. His weaving regional history into his experiences makes the story more grounded and informative.
