5.0 out of 5 stars Such a talent, January 4, 2004
By
This review is from: Tracie Spencer (Audio CD)
Tracie is a great talent. It's a shame that she's a bit forgotten now. This album features her PWL hit "Symptoms of true love" and also "Imagine". She was so cute back then when she won Star Search, but she's still a great performer and a nice lady today

4.0 out of 5 stars TRACIE'S BEGINNING, October 29, 2000
This review is from: Tracie Spencer (Audio CD)
When Tracie Spencer released her debut album in 1988, she was only 12 years old. And what a remarkable singing voice she had. The album churned out three Top 40 hits and her voice was just so soft and compelling. The disc opens with the first single "Hide And Seek" a sweet ballad with a beautiful echoey chorus and saxophone interludes, on which most of the other songs follow in this music pattern. The next single "Symptoms Of True Love" is a fast ryhthm paced song, proving though her voice is thin it's adequate. The standout track and highest charted track (it hit number 2 on the charts) was the remake of John Lennon's hit "Imagine". Piano chimes and smooth hyms back the young Tracie's sweet lead vocal. Although those were the only charted songs, don't mistake the rest of CD as a just a dismissed filler. "My Heart Only Beats 4 U", another fast song and the near-acapella ballads "Because Of You" and "Lullaby Child" are excellent tracks, even though they may seem corny lyric-wise, its her stunning vocal ability that makes the tracks worth listening to.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best albums ever made by a kid, February 9, 2008
This review is from: Tracie Spencer (Audio CD)
It's difficult to believe from listening to this that it could be possible, but the throaty, wailing voice that anchors the songs on this superb album is that of a girl who was 11 at the time. She's also great at not wasting it, either, employing some top jazz and pop-soul background players who do as much to give the album a mature, sophisticated, sound. Best songs include the ballad "Hide And Seek", the midtempo "Symptoms Of True Love", and the breezy upbeat "Cross My Heart."

Also of note is a brilliantly robust cover of the John Lennon anthem "Imagine," which Lennon purists would probably be impressed by (or at least not insulted by).

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Girl, Fabulous Voice!, July 2, 2010
This review is from: Tracie Spencer (Audio CD)
I remember going to see her perform at Symphony Hall in Newark New Jersey. She opened for the group called the Boys. They booed her and she kept singing. I only went to see her. She was such a trooper (or should I really say an angel) on the stage. I finally couldn't take it and I told the people around me to give her a chance and they did. Finally I could her sing acapella. I don't know how she felt when she left the stage finally, but she did a fantastic job. Love all of her album. I wish she would make more.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Impressive Debut, December 3, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Tracie Spencer (Audio CD)
My obsession with Tracie Spencer began in 1999 when the single It's All About You {Not About Me} came out and from then on I became one of Tracie's biggest fans. Tracie's self-titled debut{Recorded when she was just 12 years old} is nothing but a album of fun dance tunes and simply cute ballads. Hide and Seek is a very wonderful ballad and was the first single. Track 2 is very New Wave sounding and will get you dancing and was Tracie's biggest single My Heart Beats only 4 U and In My Dreams are two dance and love ballads that are simply cute that could have easily been released as singles on the radio. And of course let's not forget Tracie's rendtion of John Lennon's Imagine. This song should be played on the radio in honor of our world today. And John would be real proud if he heard this version. The Michael Jay {Martika Brenda K. Starr} written tune Cross My Heart is fun and showcases Tracie's rap ablities as she raps for the first time. The other tracks are cute and should appeal to many girls of all ages. Get this album and you will not be disappointed. And for more fun check out Cosby Kid Raven-Symone's 1993 out of print Album Here's to new Dreams if you want to hear a cute voice like Tracie's
Listen and Enjoy,
Regis
