4.0 out of 5 stars Nice, but make sure..., August 14, 2009
This review is from: Pro Track® 250 Watt Gooseneck Arm Ceiling Light Fixture
Nice, but make sure you want to spend your life buying GU10 lights for this thing...they are not the super commonly available Halogens...my intent was to put LED lights in them, but LED GU10s are quite difficult to find, and 250 watts is a lot of juice to be turning on every time you turn on the lights! Otherwise, no complaints, easy to install and reasonably priced, as long as you don't mind paying chinese workers 15 cents an hour!

Sorry. I know we're not supposed to think about that.

USA!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice fixture but runs HOT due to halogen bulbs, October 29, 2011

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Pro Track® 250 Watt Gooseneck Arm Ceiling Light Fixture
I like the fixture a lot, especially being able to move/direct the lights where I want them for an office environment with several work areas. If you install the 5 bulbs that come with it (or use any other standard halogen-type bulb), the fixture quickly gets too hot to touch or move the individual "arms". It gets so hot you would burn your fingers easily, and the "heat zone" extends well up into the "arms" above the bulbs. (Elsewhere I saw a review of this fixture which said the heat eventually discolors the metal near the hot bulbs. I could believe that.) I had intended to replace at least some of the bulbs with LED bulbs (which run much cooler, use far less energy, potentially last thousands of hours longer, but cost more). I had one such LED bulb on hand to test with the fixture, and they are barely warm to the touch. I will now replace ALL of the bulbs with the GU10 MR16 LED bulbs which you can find more easily now on Amazon or local hardware store...prices are dropping/features increasing on LED bulbs generally, so check for the latest/best reviews on Amazon. Make sure any bulb you buy says "GU10 MR16" or it will not fit.

If you do not intend to move the lights around once installed for your location, and if you don't mind considerable extra heat or energy use, then the 5 standard bulbs should be no problem. Otherwise consider getting some LED bulbs which at this writing cost from $8.-$25. each depending on brightness and other factors.
