I bought this book for my five year old daughter who enjoys hiking with her dad in the forest preserves near our home. She loved it and couldn't wait to go out to the trails. Each page has a life size picture of the animals' footprint which is very helpful because several animals (i.e. wolf and coyote) have similar footprints. Sometimes the difference in size is the only noticiable difference. Each page also has a picture of the animal, so my daughter, who is unable to read, is still able to tell to which animal the footprint belongs. My only complaint is that the book does not show both the front and back footprints of each animal. But the book is small and lightweight, easy to throw in a child's back pack, and clear enough for my five year old to understand on her own.

    3.0 out of 5 stars A bit disappointed, July 28, 2008
    Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Track Pack (Paperback)
I was expecting a small book, but for $8 it was a bit smaller than I expected. As another reviewer mentioned, the book only shows either the back or fore print of each animal, seemingly chosen at random. For example: page three has the fore print of a weasel, the hind print of a mink, then the fore print of a marten. I was hoping that each page would have a featured animal along side its fore AND hind tracks - at least for some of the animals. The real life size of the prints seems very helpful, as long as you find the right matching print (fore or hind) during your hike. Several tracks are split by the books spiral binding and others have been partially blocked by boxes illustrating what the track belongs to. I think the track would still be usable, but some part of me still wants to see the whole track. I think I would have been happier with a slightly larger, sturdier book with both fore and hind tracks for each animal that targeted the North Eastern animals (maybe organized by region). I'm sure it'll still be useful, just not quite what I was hoping for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Made our trip to Yellowstone extra memorable!, April 28, 2009
    Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Track Pack (Paperback)
I had been looking for some references that I could take to Yellowstone on our trip in the summer. My wife and daughter found out that they really loved finding animal traks and being able to figure out which animal it was. This became our most beloved book throughout the trip. It enthrawled my daughter and wife better than their Nientendo DS or their iPod's. Wow!
